This is unreal to me. The margins must be insane on this market, not just for dresses but everything involved with the wedding. People justify the expense as “it’s the only time i’ll Get married” when in reality there is a coin flip’s chance the marriage doesn’t last. I was the best man in a buddy’s wedding a few years back, and he shared with me that he paid $4200 for a videographer to video the wedding/reception.

I'm honestly surprised it's that low. Those dresses are insanely expensive.

The amount of money people dish out for weddings is just plain stupid.

$10K, $20K, $30K or more. There are so many more important things you can do with the money. The entire business is a racket.

My wife of 8 years bought the display dress that she loved, my grandmother altered it. People asked "jeez how much did yall pay for THAT dress?" at the wedding.

I think it was $450 or something all together. If she would have bought the "new" one and had it altered it would have been over $1000.

Yes, their margins are damn near criminal.

If your fiancé insists on a wedding dress that costs that much, you should rethink marrying that bitch.

The millennials and younger generations aren’t interested in spending tons of money on wedding dresses. Look at how Alfred Angelo and David’s bridal closed down so many stores nationwide. With so many is student loans debt, I’ve read many younger brides would rather just get cash for house down payment rather than an elaborate wedding dress.

I love the topic of weddings on the OT.

Someone asks advice on what car to buy and no matter what the price range they're called a poor because they aren't looking at a car $100k+. But spend more than $10k on a wedding? Jeez what a fricking moron.

People here love to brag about their expensive cars, clothes, homes, etc. But when it comes to weddings people love to brag about how cheap they were. It's a fun juxtaposition.

My mom used to own a bridal store and sold dresses at a healthy margin but not at some exorbitant price. Eventually enough money flowed into the area and people were really fricking snooty. Any dress under $700 was looked at as trash.

These wedding dress shows make every bride think every dress needs to cost $2,000+ or you’re a cheapskate.

My wife bought a used one for $150.

Then re-sold it online after the wedding for $75.

I love her.

Or she comes from a loaded family that you’re marrying into and that’s nothing to her.

I don't care if it's $30 or $30,000... as long as they can afford it.

It only bothers me when people decide on a circus wedding that they can't afford and start making insane requests of their family/friends/guests.

That stuff is marked up because people keep paying it.

Curious, with mother's discount, what did yours cost?

My wife’s was free because my mom gave it to her. I have no idea how much it was priced at though.

I know that most dresses were marked up to between 50-100% of cost though, and my mom’s shop was generally on the lower end of the spectrum in terms of prices.

You shut your mouth. Money is no object when it comes to giving him the wedding he's been dreaming of since he was a little girl!

That may be the national average but we all know that the camo wedding dresses of Louisiana aren't near that high.
