Hourly wage. If they make less than min wage with tips it has to be grossed up to Fed minimum wage. No one in this country that is employed makes less than min wage.

Every will make up for this with the cost of their products.

And yes, you should still tip wait staff

Should tie it to USMCA and kick it back to the House.

Considering restaurants will end up having to pay more to employees thus raising their prices, how will this affect tipping in today’s society?

If it's not a chick getting naked, I fricking despise the idea of tipping. Pay these people a decent wage and be done with it. I get shitty enough service even with tipping, so I don't think we as consumers will lose much.

This varies by state and even city.

if you make minimum wage you are a what "Britney Spears is for you"

I would actually rather have room and board and be what "Britney Spears is for you" than make minimum wage and have to pay for my own room and board.

If people are making 15 bucks an hour MINIMUM at a service job, they aren't getting a tip and it'd be absolutely ridiculous for them to expect it.

There is then no incentive for a waiter to do his job well since he already knows his wage
or maybe, just like most jobs, incentives will be pay raises and promotions

$15 minimum wage

minimum wage will always be the minimum wage. At first they will think they are living in hog heaven but eventually skilled workers will demand more pay to keep the wage discrepancy as it is now. Goods will also go up...everything will go up to where $15 an hour gets you the same as $10 an hour or whatever the min wage is.

wait staff

still won't get paid min wage...if they work on tips. If they get paid min wage I won't tip anymore. The pros about working a job that you make most of your money in tips is you get to lie to the feds about what you made...and pay less taxes.

Most of their workers are not actually full time I believe. They keep a majority of their employees in part time status to not require health care. I’m nit 100% on that but I remember reading that as how wal Mart was skirting Obama care requirements

If you are making $15 an hour to wait tables I’m not tipping you. I only believe in tipping good service now because they don’t make but $2 something an hour.

Okay this will be an unpopular opinion here, but I think we should raise the minimum wage. Maybe not to $15 an hour, but at least to a threshold where a person working a full time job would not be eligible for welfare.

What pisses me off is places like walmart that literally have food stamp applications in their employee breakrooms. If you work full time you shouldn't have to be on fricking foodstamps. Basically we are subsidizing giant corporations like Walmart with our tax money so they can continue paying low wages.

EITC is also a subsidy. So are mortgage interest deductions. So are HSAs. So are most forms of retirement accounts.

We "subsidize" just about every worker in the country in form or another.

It's so you can continue to buy shite for cheap. Ok rise the wages. But don't forget the people who went to school that barely make more than that now. They will want their wages raised too.

This will affect everything. The guy picking the fruit wages go up, the guy delivering the fruit to the plants wages go up, the people boxing the fruit wages go up, the guy delivering the fruit to Walmart grocery wages go up. The people stocking the fruit on the shelves wages go up.

The cost to get that good into your hands goes up a shite ton. It will be offset by you now paying more.

Mortgage interest deductions, pre-tax HSA's, and pre-tax retirement contributions do not add to the deficit. They are all simply tax deductions.

Yes, EITC is a subsidy on low-pay as it is a refundable tax credit and in the same vein as what I was talking about.

Tipping is engrained in our restaurant culture though. Will this break the wheel? I think most wait staff will still expect it because they are providing exemplary service

They don’t? You might want to tell quite literally every single orthodox economist out there.

A subsidy and a tax break are economically identical.
