Wages are not just like "every other price in the market"
Not even close to being true.
How so? It is the price of labor services. For a business, if the cost of materials goes up, they will look for substitutes. What makes labor any different?

Tipped employees make like 5.25 an hour in Florida. Not 2.25

Personally I hate it. There is then no incentive for a waiter to do his job well since he already knows his wage. I prefer cheaper cost of meals and being able to tip appropriately based on the level of service.
Do you get tipped? What incentive is there for you to do your job?

Inflation is healthy, and this is how inflation should be, from the bottom up. Poor people spend every dollar they have and stimulate economy.
There are two scenarios. one- give money to the poor employees, they spend it, it drives demand and increases prices, then companies make more money, then they can give employees a raise.
Scenario two- incentives can be given to large companies, these incentives will increase their margins, at this point the company can decide to grow their company, takes larger profits, give dividends to investors, or give raises to their employees.
It is much more likely that a poor person spend every dollar they have, and stimulates the economy, than a large business deciding to give it to employees. The best businesses are cutthroat.

If you have a business that brings in 1,000,000 in revenue and you have $400,000 budgeted for salary and then overnight, the federal gov says you now have to pay at least $15/hour, what would you do?

Apparently socialist Bernie Sanders does not pay his people a livable wage either.

I may have missed it, but has anyone pointed out that min wage jobs were not intended to to be a wage that supports a family?
This is some pre-election, vote-buying, sensationalistic horse-shite.

I think you will see a rapid increase in automation and an increase in unemployment. Costs for goods and services will go up. Basically, it will just make things more expensive for everyone else.
Posted on 7/19/19 at 10:01 pm to SlidellCajun
No one is proposing that.

Neither am I. Populism is a political philosophy that appeals to short sighted people.
But when labor costs more, employers will seek more efficient alternatives and buy less
