I'm not even a trained LEO and I'm pretty sure I could get that little kid on the ground with a baton.

If you had a buddy with you, you wouldn't even need a baton. I don't blame the police, I wouldn't want to get stabbed by a 14 year old either but they probably could have held off on the shooting.
