I agree social media has added a new dimension to bullying. But I don't think it makes it universally worse.
From the video I see a kid wielding a knife wildly and putting other students at risk. That's not a cold calculating killer or some Sandy Hook wack job intent in killing his tormentors. That's the action of a little turd throwing a fit. He's pissed, he might even have anger issues, and he's having a tantrum. Someone should knock him on his arse. The cop did with a round from his service weapon.

There is no legal requirement to use non lethal means.

Eh, my friends and I got threatened by a guy with a machete at our pool this summer and two of us ended up taking him down and fricking him up a little. I got sliced a little on my side and hand, but nothing serious. It's certainly not unthinkable that someone could've taken him down, but I have no issue with the shooting.

I mean if you're hell bent on killing someone, you'll go down swinging. If you're just kinda a bitch and wanna scare people, which seems to be this kid and definitely was the guy in my scenario, it's much different.

My wife and I had some friends over at the pool at our apartment, we were getting drunk and having fun. Chick comes out and accuses us of breaking her nose when we were fricking around in the pool. We say no because it didn't happen, so she leaves and comes back with this trashy arse 5'6" dude who starts talking shite like crazy. We tell him to frick off and he goes "ok let's do this" or something like that.
Leaves and comes back with a machete. I kinda (drunkenly) figure that he's not going to do shite, so I put my arm around his neck and throw him down and start wailing on his face while my buddy (played OL at Arkansas) flies in behind, pins him down, and throws the machete away. We call the cops, he gets carted off, and we spend an hour giving statements and got patched up by the EMS guys.
And for the record, this is in a nice, low crime suburb of Dallas in a nice complex, so completely out of the norm
