Vlada Dzyuba, aged 14, a prominent young model, died after being in a coma for two days after expiring at a gruelling fashion show in Shanghai.
She was evidently suffering from meningitis but her condition was not spotted in time and she was made to continue on the catwalk in a show for Asian designers, it was reported.
As she waited for her next appearance, her temperature soared.
Minutes later she collapsed and was unconscious.
An ambulance was called but she died on Friday after two days in a coma.
The preliminary cause of death is meningitis compounded by severe exhaustion.

It has been claimed the teen was on a “slave labor” contract and had been too afraid to seek medical treatment.
Officially she was only allowed to work three hours a week.
A number of young Russian models are recruited to China, but Vlada’s tragic case has raised concerns over working conditions for the models and how they can be exploited.

My goodness that poor child

This is very sad. Another reason to add to why the fashion industry is one of the worst and most useless things on the planet.

:eyebrow:
I knew someone personally with meningitis.
She got a mild but worsening headache, and decided to take a Tylenol and take a nap to get rid of it , just like we all have done at least once.
She didn’t wake up. Contact tracing followed to get everyone who was in close proximity with her in the prior 24 hours on prophylaxis. This was at LSU.
It’s a tragedy, but they are wayyyyy overstating the pageant element to make the story. Once infected, she was likely to have died unless they were really on the ball on the symptoms. The bigger story is the potentionally infecting others with a lethal and contagious disease by being “forced” to compete. Not being involved on a show for 12 hours as a teenager.
Pretty sure the stretches I’ve done going for 12+ hours, more than 24+ hours without sleep; while wouldn’t have helped it still wouldn’t turn a survivable ilnfection to a lethal one.

I'm glad someone else asked we're all thinking it

Why was there no parent with this child?

Of a 14 year old dead girl?

In fairness she died from the meningitis, not the show
As someone who had meningitis I don't see how she was physically able to do that. Maybe I was just a pussy

777Tiger:
There's a thread on the MSB about the Thunder's charter landing in Chicago last night with a smashed nose cone. Pics of the 757 in the thread, along w/ multiple hail damage pics and a nasty bird strike pic. What's your professional opinion?
Hijack over.

I'll have to take a look, but my initial opinion is that the Thubder's can bite my arse.

12 hours and she died from exhaustion? How weak, our 9 year old Asian kids work 16 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Our daughter was a model for Salem Lights, but we always read her contract closely to make sure she was well compensated and not mistreated. Never more than a half pack a day.
Saddest day of our lives was when she hit 20 and they said she was too old for their campaign.
She goes to Duke now.
