I just yell at them through my smart doorbell in a fake accent, "I'm calling the po leece!"
I would never harm a child, intentionally.

WTF?

witness had recalled someone exiting the house that was pranked and "shooting at the kids running down the street."
If he shot at kids running down the street, he’s going to jail for a long time. There’s no self defense argument if he’s shooting someone in the back as they’re running down the street.
Parents do need to talk to their kids about this kind of nonsense though. Every few months, we’ll have people complain in my neighborhood FB group about teens ding dong ditching in the middle of the night, sometimes banging on the door instead of just ringing the doorbell. If you wake someone up from a dead sleep at 1am banging on their door, there’s a good chance that homeowner is coming to the door armed. Ding dong ditch may just be childish fun pranking in the daytime, but its a dangerous game for kids to play doing that stuff late at night.

Had some kids doing this in our neighborhood during the day. I kindly asked them not to do it again. They starting doing it between 3-5 am in all black and masked up. They were not ringing doorbell or knocking, they would kick the double doors and hit with both hands at the same time. They would set camera up I guess for Tik tok. They ended up breaking the door latch. While I wouldn’t shoot at the kids running away I could see why someone would get very pissed off because if could have caught these bastards I don’t know what I would’ve done.

What's an 11 y/o doing out at 11 pm?

Maybe by today's standards, but in 1992/93 timeframe similar incident in Central happened where a homeowner shot and killed a Japanese exchange student. Although circumstances were different because if I recall correctly they were dressed for Halloween and accidentally entered the wrong house. However, similar in that the kid was killed fleeing the house in the front yard.
Home owner did not go to jail.

If you think some teenager kicking your door is justification for putting a bullet in him then maybe you shouldn't have a gun

You are getting downvoted, but there is fault on the parents here. Why is an 11 year old out at 11pm? I've barely seen this asked and not ONCE seen this answered.
Yeah because for purposes of this discussion, it’s irrelevant. Kids should be home, sure. What a fricking revelation
What’s more interesting to discuss are the idiots that think you can shoot someone for ringing a doorbell

Am I on the right path? Seriously

When someone is fleeing never shoot unless you were hurt or injured in a incident. Then you still may be charged for shooting at a fleeing perpetrator.
This is sad AF kids cant even be kids anymore with the world we live in! With that sad I would definitely shoot someone trying to break into my house if my family was inside. Im killing everyone with no remorse when it comes to my family. If Im not in danger and can avoid taking a life then I would if it were just me.
I definitely won't shoot at a car thief fleeing the scene or perpetrators running away thats a good way to spend the rest of your life in prison, for what? Stupidity is what!!
Someone is gonna get charged for this and its gonna be negligent homicide

I'd say there's only one or two of those. Thank goodness... but even that is one or two too many.

You sure about all that, the threat was gone and they were no longer on his property.

I have a FAR better way of handling the door bell ringing than shooting the person ringing the bell. I simply ignore it. If you need me call me...if you do not have my number there is nothing at all I could need from you or vice versa. I do the same thing with my phone, if you ain't in my contacts and show up on my caller ID I ain't answering. Pretty simple.

ding dong ditch sounds like a porn. We called it something else.

Yep. A word rappers can use all the time with no repercussion. But racist as hell if anyone else says it.
