HAMBURG, N.Y. - The mother of an 11-year-old Hamburg, New York boy who recently died from flu-related complications doesn’t want her son to be remembered as “just a statistic” but rather as “the wonderful boy he was.”
Luca Calanni died Saturday at Oishei Children’s Hospital, his mother, Ashley Calanni, told local news station WTKR.
Calanni said Luca was sickened with the flu early last week. By Wednesday, after not seeing any improvement, he was taken to the hospital for fluids. There, he was diagnosed with septic shock. His condition steadily deteriorated; he later suffered a fatal cardiac arrest, according to his mother.

Sad, but it saved him from a lifetime of being on the autistic spectrum.

Tragic and I feel for the family to lose this young child.
And there is no need for you to try to sensationalize this by including this in your title
This is irrelavent.

What caused the septic shock? That has to be an extreme symptom of the flu, or have another issue altogether.

So I guess we won't know what else he had.

How does the flu cause septic shock?

He just got sicker. May never know why. May not really be a reason. Septic shock just means his flu symptoms got worse because his flu virus made it into his blood stream and became a systemic infection (sepsis).
Flu vaccines do NOT equal measles or polio or tetanus vaccines. Flu vaccine only slightly lessens your chance of getting the flu. And that percentage changes yearly with the vaccine.

No, this is the OT. Only the cases where someone died who didn't have the flu shot are supposed to be posted.

This is irrelavent.
What is also relevant is the flu vaccine is not 100% successful with prevention.

It is relevant. When reading about a kid apparently dying a flu related death, people may wonder if the parents had gotten him the flu vaccine.

I know. I cant wait to see how big of a shite show this turns into when the vaccine crowd shows up and starts to admonish everyone who dares to offer a contradictory opinion.
solid work by the Op tho getting the ball rolling on an entertaining thread.

Sure, you could wonder if they had gotten him the shot. But getting the shot is irrelavent to him getting the flu and dying from flu complications. It's very clear when you get the shot that it's not guaranteed to prevent you catching the flu.

Pneumonia is usually the one that causes sepsis, which you CAN get from the flu but if you are on top of everything, should be curable.

Yep. Was told it works about 60% of the time. Both my kids tested positive today. So we can knock that 60 down a little bit more

Right, but to say the information that the boy had gotten the flu vaccine is "irrelevant" to the story isn't true. It's relevant because many will wonder if the parents got him the flu shot. It may be relevant because it informs those who don't know that the flu shot isn't 100% effective so you should still take other precautions etc. The parents themselves probably want that information known at least subconsciously.

Folks pointing out he was vaccinated are just dumb.
The vaccine reduces chances of catching flu.
Reduces death rate and hospitalization rate.
Is it 100%?
No.
Are seatbelts 100%?
Nope, but I'm still going to use them!
