If Philly is #13 Can there be any other explanation?

Thank God Asheville isn't on that list. We already have too many fricking Yankees living here and turning this place into a liberal cesspool.

When I retire, I'm getting out of this hellhole.

You get a lot of bang for your buck in the rural Midwest.

If you can stick to the idyllic hallmark movie town, and not the decaying factory town.

I'd imagine Asheville scores poorly on the Affordability index used in the list.

If this is true, someone form up North needs to come get these Yankees that didn't know not to come South!

As a Pennsylvania native, all I can say is that is a total joke, unless you're looking at the availability of healthcare. That state sucks and most of the towns on that list are unlivable, dirty shitholes.

Who wants to retire in NYC?

If you take into account no need to drive, ability to walk everywhere in the neighborhood, public transportation, lots of people I know are looking to retire to cities where you can do exactly that.
Now obviously NYC is going to be very expensive.

Why would anyone downvote this? If there are articles that are sending Californians to Pennsylvania and New York instead of your state...that is a good thing. Let's try to promote this narrative.

Yes...if you want a good retirement experience...move to Pennsylvania...not Knoxville or Chattanooga (or whatever cities are near you)...that will be my mantra.

It seems like they forgot the “is this place a rusted out shithole” filter on the list. I’m sure these places are cheap and all but I’ve been to a couple and they’re full blown trash cans

Great areas. Old Fort is coming around and is an up and coming area. Hendersonville is a great spot. We have a place in Bat Cave and usually head up to Hendersonville for dinner or whatnot each time we're out there.

BTW...for those moving to the Amish area of Lancaster...just know that you need to pronounce it Lank-ster. They will look at you funny, otherwise.

Several of those places are cold and shitty. Cheap sure but that’s for a reason.

I’m from Dayton, Ohio. I know of which I speak. Retirees want warm sun, not suicide grey.

Surprised that poster didn't list Waynesville.
