We have some melting going on now, dripping off the roof. 30° at the closest station 31° at the house.

A balmy 12 degrees with a wind chill of -3 here in LR area. Quite a bit colder than they were projecting for this time of day.

This is the kind of cold that reveals drafts in your house you never knew existed. Currently online looking in to new windows

I moved into this home a month ago. I am getting a crash course on the ins and outs of this house, including whats gotta change before next winter. For instance, the laundry area stays freezing because they have a doggy door with a plastic covering over it in there. It clearly does little good because that room is freezing and I have to shut it off to the rest of the house to keep it contained. May be replacing that door before next year.

Of the 4 homes I’ve lived in here, 3 were on partial or mostly crawl space: I never appreciated how quiet my Louisiana homes were bc it doesn’t sound like Frankenstein when people walked around. And those floors get SO COLD in the winter.

The flakes have just about stopped here for some reason. Hopefully not the transition to freezing rain. Got enough to look pretty but not enough to sled, bummer.

Yep. I’ve been watching.

Supposed to warm up to 55° over night before the actual front gets here.
We’ll see!

Much colder. Was supposed to hit 56 degrees this afternoon but it's currently 49. No way it gets up to 56 since the temp has been dropping all day.

Temps everywhere seem to be below what was predicted. Curious to see how that plays out for ppl south of the predicted ice line.

I grew up in an old plantation type house from the late 1800s. The big wrap around porch with the columns, long circular driveway with sidewalk to the far side of the drive where horses dropped off people so as not to shite near the house, big iron dinner bell, even an old train depot where a railroad used to run by the property. Cool house, had zero insulation. Just straight wood, windows had this rope and pulley system with weights in the wall so you pulled the rope to open the huge windows. House was designed to allow max airflow through it since it was built long before AC was invented. When you got a cold north wind had to close off north half of the house it was so drafty. 4 gas fireplaces and two gigantic central heat units just for the downstairs, upstairs had a 3rd unit. Had to run all of them full blast to stay relatively warm. We had gas bills hit as high as 2k a month in winter
