Could we get a winter weather prep expert in here to compile a list of things to be sure you do before this sort of weather comes through?

Pipes and such seem obvious, but I know there’s a lot more to consider. I’d appreciate it and I’m surely plenty others will, too.

So, for anyone around I-10 and south of it, this is just going to be some cold weather and no ice?

Why is everyone buying all of the bread, water, and milk again?

People are dumb.

I went yesterday and my bougie keto bread was like an oasis of stocked supply around the desert of wonder bread areas

However, next weekend may be a banger

When will this storm start? I know it'll hit SELA Sunday, but are people feeling the effects tomorrow in other places?

Make sure you have a plan for animals. I know a lot of us here take care of our pets, but some out there don’t even think about them until it’s too late.

Gas up your car
But water and food
Fill your washer with water in case you need for toilet flushing
Flashlights and batteries and candles and matches
Blankets and hats and gloves and scarves.
Towels along the door to outside at the bottom to keep drafts out
Puzzles and books for kids
Charge all phones and computers and backup batteries
Food and water and warmth for pets
All medicines you’ll need

Pic — did you decide to stay?? I’d be beach bound so fast …

I would add thrown an emergency kit & blankets in car in case you have to leave
Make sure you have propane / charcoal if without power for a few days so you can cook
Change the batteries in your smoke alarms / co monitor

Did people freak out like this for the snowstorm last year?

Not saying it's bad advice but I usually winterize any vacant rentals I have, move a few plants indoors, and have a space heater or two and a generator ready. That's about as far as I go usually. Nothing will be so bad that you can't get help for days, unlike a hurricane.

The only thing that concerned me last year was ice dams on roofs because I saw a few people in SWLA deal with that in 2021, right after getting new roofs from Laura and Delta.

CO2 alarm is very important. A whole family in Lake Charles died after Laura because they ran a generator too close to an open window

It's going to rain and then freeze. There will be plenty of ice, just not necessarily from the sky.

No I didn’t. She asked a question and is in Arkansas so therefore I was trying to be a helpful poster.

Nothing wrong with that. Right???

This is my concern on the Northshore (St. Tammany / Washington / Tangi parishes).

Will it come to pass is the big question at this point.

Black ice and bridges / overpasses freezing are a possibility with this.

The graphics from the professionals that I posted specifically mention ice accumulation, and show zero along I10.

I am not saying there won't be any, but it appears they are saying it will be so thin that it doesn't matter, or that it will melt off fast when the sun comes out.

Yeah, I think we are staying. Reluctantly. I believe most of my neighbors have whole home generators so if need be, I’m sure we could go over there to thaw out.

I struggled with going to the beach bc it would be me+4 kids for 10 hours in the car (it’s the little ones that would be challenging), going there and honestly I became concerned about our ability to get back safely by Thursday—especially with the consideration of another winter storm rolling through.

There was no very clear answer for me.

Also important to note that I have two houses to care for as I’m in a lease until end of this month, so being near the property should something go down was also a consideration.

I’m sure I could be talked into leaving rn, I’m exhausted and fickle hearted about this situation. West Little Rock is in the most annoying precipice of snow/sleet/ice which has made this a hard decision.

My concern is shutting down the basin bridge or other bridges around LC early on Sunday. It’ll rain then almost freezing temps. Need to go from BR to LC and back Sunday around lunch

I had to go to Sam’s for my monthly run yesterday. It was a zoo, I don’t understand. It may be a couple days. You may be without a stove. The need for supplies like you are going in a wagon ride to Oregon baffles me. Get a couple gallons of water for cooking just in case. And some bread and lunch meat. But come on man. 10 cases of water, 8 loaves of bread and two cases of tp?

You don't have to get so defensive.

I have no idea where Picc lives but this board is majority LA and even along I10 people are freaking out. I don't remember this much panic for the snowstorm last year and the snow was probably far worse than what this will end up being.

2021 ice storm was also far worse than what this will be and people didn't freak out that I remember. Too many in my area were homeless due to the hurricanes anyway so an ice storm was just another bump in the road at that point.

These storms never last longer than a day or two in LA, and people act like they won't be able to get assistance for weeks every time one pops up. I understand the better to be safe than sorry mantra but maybe I am much more pragmatic and don't understand the over-preparing.

Outside of food, people should still have winter supplies from 2021 and last year and their homes should have wrapped pipes and stuff as well.
