Driveway melted enough for my son to break up and shovel the ice this morning. So much is just going to refreeze overnight. Hoping he can get back to TCU tomorrow and the university opens.

This may only apply to central Tennessee and locales to Nashville's north and east (all the way to the Carolinas, but the dusting of snow predicted for Friday and morphed into several inches and 20+ hours of snow.
Here we often avoid accumulation because the ground temperatures are above freezing; that's not going to ameliorate the accumulation this time as the ground is frozen solid and will be through next Tuesday.
Our next worry is if the Carolinas' blizzard spills over the mountains onto us.

But all just snow, right? My dad lives in Murfreesboro and has been dodging falling trees since Saturday.

Let me check. I'll shoot you an email if/when.

It is looking like the Carolinas will be smoked by this one. Should just be snow, but a bunch of it.

MemphisGuy OM just sent email —
No classes until February 8 as of now. With students leaving it’ll be easier for power crews/restoration crews to get around.
There are so many other little towns that need help although I’m not there and not connected to any.

Yep. It’s all insane. I’m in south Louisiana so we’re familiar with disasters with hurricanes.
But a disaster of this magnitude in these temps is unthinkable.
And the people saying no one is doing anything … ice is different. You don’t know exactly where to stage things. And even if you get the right area you can’t necessarily get it where you need it.
I worry about the itty bitty towns/areas that still can’t get out .. when will someone get to them?? And the elderly are heavy on my mind.
It’s all a lot. Again I’m so selfishly glad that my girl came home last Friday.

The main problem is it still going to be cold into next week.
It's been 20 degrees every morning here in SC and we don't have an inch of sice on the ground.
Feel for everyone.

People get mad about power not being restored, but they don’t realize the mess this is. For example over half the poles on hwy 12 from my farm to Belzoni are broken, a 10 mile stretch. A widespread storm like this, some areas will be without power for a month. They can’t fix shite until all the ice melts, and some areas are then too muddy for a truck to get to if it’s a power line that goes across a field or through the woods. And they have to map it all out, figure out where power sources from where, try to figure out what all is needed to fix it, find the spare parts and have them brought to areas which is difficult when the roads have been icy and blocked by debris. So road clearing has to happen before repairs. Then when repairs start they basically have to start near substations and power sources and go from there because no point in fixing a section that’s far away from the power source if there’s no power reaching that area. So if you’re in a rural area or small rural town, be prepared to go without power for weeks. They’ll start at the larger towns and the main highways first

NEMEPA said that all of their substations are good to go so that should help.

My power went out at Saturday at midnight. Est time to come on was Wednesday at 10 pm. Got it back on Monday. We do live by a power station, so what you said makes since. My generator broke down right when we lost power, so I am very thankful for those guys that are doing a great job around here.

You got any contacts in Ripley?
Tippah County Emergency Management Agency
Director: Christie Lindsey
Phone: 662-587-0325
That looks like a land line #. Director: Christie Lindsey was just on the local news talking about the Ripley hospital still not having water.

I'd hope they do, especially on a day like that.
