I also want to know the % being hospitalized. I suspect it is less than 10%. My wife has it and was pretty sick. She had upper respiratory symptoms. She was immediately sent home, NO MEDICINE prescribed, bed rest, and quarantine. That's it. SO i'm questioning how the hospitals are being overwhelmed. I'm certainly sympathetic to the people exposed as my wife has been really sick, but apparently not hospitalized sick.
There is no cure. Can only treat symptoms.

the current percent of positives requiring hospitalization is over 50%

NY Gov Cuomo has been giving hospitalization numbers every day for NY state:
Yesterday, 18% of 10,000+ cases were in hospitals.
Today, it was 14% of the 15,000+ cases in hospitals
I agree that this really among the most important numbers to watch but one you don't see as much.

Houlie, what did it look like for your wife? Did she develop gradual symptoms or did it hit her like a ton of bricks? Just trying to get some perspective about what it looks like and what to look for in early symptoms. Everything you read online is fever and cough but just wondering.

She has tested positive for covid-19? Or is this an assumption?

The information they are putting out is what I would expect of a junior high class project. What I want to know:
- How many currently in hospital?
- Current hospital capacity by Parish.
- Location of positives by zip code.
- Remove cases as they recover.
- Number of tests given/pending.
This just off the top of my head after two beers.

The key number is how many are hospitalized that tested positive along with those that are presumed to have CV.

Exactly. This is basic, objective information that would be helpful and that any competent state government should have at the ready.

On the Ochsner teleconference call I attended last week the Drs said the break down of those testing positive was 85% quarantine at home, 10-12% admitted to inpatient and 3-5% admitted to ICU.

Of the 400 people tested at the MC drive thru, we have had 3 positives. We currently have 3 Covid-19 patients at Bluebonnet.
No friking way! Only 3 out of 400? I saw the jump the other day and assumed more from EBR. Turns out Most were in Orleans and Jefferson parish. EBR at 20 total.
Any update on drive trough testing still going on at mid city, or test being available?

I see 20% are requiring hospitalization. But these are cases which have a positive c19 test. I honestly don't think this is worse than any cold unless you are 65+ or have some debilitating respiratory issue

They stopped the drive thru testing at MC Tue when they ran out of viral transport media. We had a drive thru Thurs at BB. Very few tested. We have had 2 pos this AM and one pos yest PM from those drive thrus. Don't know if they are quarantined at home or hospitalized. Those that have been hospitalized are elderly with chronic conditions. Testing supplies are readily available. We tested 8 patients last night and only a couple today. We have partnered with LSU. They make their own viral transport media and have made 3000 kits as of yesterday afternoon. They perform testing on campus.

Both my wife and daughter were tested and the results came back positive. My wife went from healthy to fever, headache, upper respiratory congestion, in a few hours. Her head throbbed and her blood vessels stuck out. She was slightly delirious and couldn't concentrate or focus. Had difficulty sleeping. She was like this for 3 days before the fever and headache receded. She has had symptoms now for 9 days. Yesterday headaches and diarrhea. Today slight fever and disoriented. But, she is progressively getting better.

Less than 11k world wide currently considered critical
Not all info on this site (Worldometer.com) should be considered legitimate. For 2 weeks the US had been listed as 20 critical when 200 died. It's been the last two days that the number moved from 20 to over 700. Some countries critical has not changed over a two week period while others have shown periodic movement. IMO, this site is good for raw numbers, but like earlier today this site listed 14,440 new infections in the US alone, including over 12,000 in NY alone, before corrections.

The media simply and constantly reports:
Number of positive cases
Number of deaths
I have not seen one single news station report:
Total tested
Negative test numbers
Total requiring hospitalization
Total deaths without a severe prior existing condition
Further,
None of these numbers matter without total daily tested and a breakdown of who is tested.
If we have increased from 500 to 2000 in a day that sounds scary but if we are only testing people with multiple confirmed symptoms and we tested 2000 the first day and 10,000 the second day and it went from 500 to 2000 then those numbers are actually good even though they’re reported as scary by the media.
