You are actually talking yourself into paying a 31 year old middle of the road starting QB all-pro level money and you are going to give the Raiders a draft pick for the pleasure. They should be paying US to take that ridiculous contract on and kissing our feet for it. Carr is not 2006 Drew Brees. I hope I’m proven wrong but if we really take that contract on it will be the death of the Saints for the rest of this decade. He would need to play like Josh Allen, Mahomes and Burrow to justify what he’s making and that’s not happening with Chris Olave as your WR1 when you had Davante Adams, possibly the best all around WR in the game, and a freak TE in Darren Waller to throw to and you still couldn’t get it done. Not to mention Josh Jacobs in the backfield. Downvote all you want but it’s the hard truth.

Look, I get your post and agree that this board is outrageous. However, the Saints shouldn't be looking for "the next Drew Brees".

For $40 million a year he better be pretty damn close to 2006 Drew in production. $20-25 million a year is one thing but not $40.

They had a top 10 offense or close to it this year. The raiders defense is horrible.

Exactly and look at the weapons they had. We don’t have any of that.

it's not all pro level money. he'll be paid in the 10 - 15 range. his cap hit for us would be around 32mil.

he's a solid starter who's performed well when he's had a decent oline. this isn't basketball. having jacobs and adams last year didn't do much for the oline or that horrible defense.

his biggest issues are constant coaching changes and being part of a bad organization.

he looks like a qb that feels as if he has to try and win games in spite of perennially poor defensive play and he ends up taking too many chances. i'll also say that a lot of those chances have paid off.

he leads the nfl in 4th quarter comebacks and game winning drives since he's been in the league. obviously part of that is being on bad teams which gives more opportunities to have to come back in the 4th quarter.

I’m pretty sure that’s the ultimate point of giving up the pick. To force the raiders to eat some of that contract

Also, don’t know if you have looked at the QB salaries for next year, but Carr’s cap hit has him as the 9th highest QB; will be down to around 12th once some rookie contracts get reworked. So not All-Pro payday

30 million gets you Matt Ryan ... 32 million gets you Ryan Tannehil. You people need to get over the cost. It is what it is in 2023.

Hate to break it to you but the Saints OL is no longer elite or even really all that good. McCoy is your most consistent player. Ramcyzk is good when he’s healthy but he’s starting to have a lot of nagging injuries. Ruiz started to finally play better then got hurt. Penning has been hurt, Hurst is a G not a T and Peat is a giant labia with legs. Oh and you are paying Ramcyzk top shelf money and will have to give Ruiz a new contract next year or replace him. You’re paying McCoy big money too but I’m good with that as long as he can stay healthy he will earn his deal.

The people who don’t like the idea of Carr cannot tell you what better realistic option we have right now because there are none. We can’t get Bryce Young or Stroud, we cannot afford Lamar Jackson and he’s not the type of qb this team was built to operate around anyway. So what do we do, pass on Carr then what, tank the team and hope to get Williams? He’s not a guarantee either and the bottom line is it’s a business and they have to have assess in the seats in the dome so sabotaging your team is not an option for a small market team who depends on every bit of its revenue.

I can’t wait for us to make the playoffs for you to stop being such a whiney bitch all the time. Actually, you’d probably still complain if we make it to the divisional round because Allen would stay another year.

Drew and Sean ain’t coming back pal

Really? What insider do you know that tells you the man is going to take less money when he doesn’t have to? Would you? But yea by all means let’s do the thing that has gotten us where we are today. Kets convert salary to roster bonuses and kick the fricking can even further down the road. Maybe we will be out of cap hell by the time the Destroya’s chocolate city sinks into the Gulf of Mexico.

i agree it isn't elite, but it's still in the top half of the league and could be elite again if penning works out at lt. agree on getting rid of peat, which may happen this off-season. it's still miles better than the raiders oline.

any qb we get is going to need our oline to be solid, which it most certainly can be if we can add some depth at guard. i'm with you on the need to stay healthy. penning is still the wild card as everything falls into place if he is what we think he can be.

Just not the case anymore. Daniel Jones is about to get $40M/yr. This is just the standard for starting QBs.

The contract will be adjusted

agree. also don't think we're bad enough to tank for williams or maye. some really good qbs to be had later in the first round of the '24 draft class.

I am talking myself into it but not at top tier QB pay. To me, 3 years for $75Mish would be ideal. Will it be there? Have no clue.

I’m in meltdown mode because I’m thinking about it as a business? Which it is. A business they are running into the ground with a flawed business model.
