I thought he would be great because the Saints made him the starter at the beginning of the season and I ignored the fact that he was terrible in Tampa and was run out of Tampa because he was never going to do anything there and the Saints always make great personnel decisions because we got an accountant for a GM.

Winston was 6 years into the league with no success leading a team deep into the playoffs. Kid just doesn’t have it and never will.

Jameis is a perfect bridge QB for a team who knows it will suck and has some weapons and wants to throw the ball around.

This post is a textbook example of bias.

Jameis got hurt two seasons in a row. He’s now closer to 30 and hasnt played a full season for several years.

His shot was ruined by injuries and he’s acceptted his future as a backup, and will be paid well to be one.

Shut up.

He also had at least two bad Winstonesque ints overturned b/c of penalties last year.

Recall 1 of them overturned, don't recall the 2nd. But he did have another YOLO potential INT that Calloway intercepted from the defender.

I think a lot of the hype/hope was because no one can argue that Winston (when healthy) has the physical tools to be special. Then they saw his ability to minimize his YOLO throws in those ~7 games with Payton and expected to see some of that carryover since it was damn near the same coaching staff. But I don't think anyone expected Pete to get so vanilla with the play calling.

The interesting thing about this year w/ Carr is will Pete keep the same basic offense, or will we see more of what we say when Pete was the guy in 2012 w/ some of the same packages and play calling that Payton would make. In other words, is Pete that shitty, or did he feel that he was limited because of Winston (mental/decision making) and Dalton (physical tools) not being able to run a more dynamic offense.

A washed up Andy Dalton was solid in our offense last year.

I am excited to see what Carr or even a healthy Jamies could do (if Carr got hurt).

Before he got hurt Jameis was incredibly efficient and was not making mistakes. He did it with an almost non existent receiving corps and a running attack that was working.

2022

He's supposed to be healthy, Saints return Kamara and Hill. Thomas is starting the season healthy, add Landry and Olave as well as Johnson to the lineup and it almost seems scary. The 4th quarter in the opener against Atlanta was scary. It showed what a fully functional offense with Winston could do. Then everyone got hurt including Winston.

no. Its a textbook example of a guy threw for 5000 yards in a season once and thats a short list.

Because what was our option, if he was going to start?

Just be depressed? What a shitty way to go through life!

Bc he threw 14 tds and 3 ints the year before. And if you broke down the ints. 2 were last second heaves at the end of halves. And the other one was bc Project Peat stepped on his foot as he released a pass.

Also, there were probably 6-8 tds dropped from our shitty group of receivers that could create zero separation.

We drafted Olave. MT was back. We picked up Jarvis Landry. There was reason for optimism.
This, basically.

Jameis has always been one of the most physically talented QBs in the league. Tampa tossed him on the field as a rookie and said "go get it", with piss-poor coaching and development. Then tossed him to the road because he made a lot of frickups.

The hope was, after being cut, he could go somewhere (here), and get his mind right. Come back and play to his potential.
He sat behind Brees a year, while Payton coached him up. There was every indication was putting in the work and had turned a corner mentally, and now understood more of what was going on.

That came crashing down. Not sure if it was due to losing Payton, or missing the rest of that season, but he just didn't come back with the same awareness he'd shown before getting hurt.

And even with all that, JW was still 5-2 before the knee injury (should have been 6-1 - the Giants loss was ALLLL on the defense). Wonder how he would have been with a full healthy season. He'll make a good backup...
