After I melted like chocolate on a summer day, I think our first three picks will all be starters in next 1-2 years. They’ll end up all being successful.

Last couple will be cannon fodder on the practice squad unless that WR has consistent hands.

Werner is 6'3" 240 and runs a 4.6 forty. He has a 39.5 inch vertical and one of the best RAS results for a linebacker in recent memory.

He's already one of the biggest, fastest linebackers on the roster.

He had season highs in tackles in each playoff game. He didnt "bomb" in the playoffs. In fact, he had some really nice highlights against Bama.

People dont have to like the pick, but at least argue valid points. Most of the knocks on the guy that I see on here are factually incorrect.

Pete Werner may be the cocktail of what the Saints have been searching for in the blend of Anzalone, Hansen, and Ellis.

Maybe but I honesty think there is a legit phobia regarding white LBers on a national level. People just assume they are less tough and athletic. We will see.

If you are asking immediate return, then Werner and Adebo have the best paths to start day one with our current roster, but I expect a vet CB to be brought in, so I’d go with Werner. Long term, next year I can see Young taking over at RT, Ram moving to LT, and us moving on from Armstead. If that happens, Young could very well be a 10 year starter which would be hard for our other players to project that far based on NFL attrition.

Turner and Baker will be in the mix. Turner has a chance to get in the rotation early and fill in case of injury, but it will take a while to see if he is a full time starter. Baker would have to crack as a ST ace first like Harris.

The hardest path is Book, but if he earns a starting spot, he could be our starter for the longest time period. I just don’t think it is likely. It will take a lot to hand over the keys to a QB that has a lot to prove just to make the roster.

4.62 for his 40 isn't horrible for size but could be polished.

This is the dumbest opinion about a 40 time in history.

“Hey son, your 40 time needs polishing”

What the frickkkk. Lol.

Werner and Adebo.

Not sold on Turner unless Jordan severely declines over the next two years.

What everyone is not realizing is that the Saints used this draft on developmental talent. Building for the future. Dont expect much from any of them this year.

Im not sure I'd put Werner in that category though. He was a PFF top 100 guy overall, and a top 7 LBer in this draft -- even with a few tweeners like Collins and JOK ranking ahead of him. As a pure 4-3 fit, he was probably a top 5 linebacker in this draft.

I dont know that anyone can say that the SAM or Mike type guys taken anywhere after him were clearly better prospects. That's what the Saints were shopping for.

Not true. If Kwon Alexander is not brought back then I would put my money on Werner being the other starting LB with Davis week 1. Baun isn’t the guy and unless Chase Hasen makes a big leap then there’s really no other option. They drafted safe with Werner in that they knew they were getting a smart, instinctual LB with position flexibility and a high floor. He might not ever be our Lavonte David to Demario’s Devin White, but he won’t get burned like Alex Anzalone did so often either. That being said if this was the play to take a safe LB prospect then I wish we would have traded up a couple spots and taken a much better player in Nick Bolton.

4.58 is considered very, very good for his size and position.

Saints put a lot of stock in RAS, Relative Athletic Score as others have said. RAS combines a ton of different physical factors (height weight etc) with all of their drill times.

quote:

Pete Werner is a LB prospect in the 2021 draft class. He scored a 9.49 RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 110 out of 2118 LB from 1987 to 2021.

Splits projected, times unofficial.

Werner’s 40 is in the 70th percentile among LB

To dumb it down for you, he is faster than 70% of the LBs tested over 20 years.

That’s not slow, or even average.

I don't know but Turner, Adebo, and Wenrer all have huge holes to fill and will get all the opportunity they can handle.

His measurables are very similar to Demario Davis. But he's white so he must be slow, undersized, and unathletic. Never change Saints Talk.
