Who are the "first tier" candidates that will not consider the Saints job?

I keep hearing this, but other than Ben Johnson, who exactly has preemptively declined the Saints job? I don't count Vrabel who was always going to the Pats. I think too many of our fans don't realize that all these jobs have serious drawbacks, and there are not many "top tier" candidates available anyway. Everyone has warts.

I don’t consider Ben Johnson first tier. Has never been a head coach and his offenses very easily get rattled and struggle to recover. Now he is a brilliant football mind and could be exactly what the Bears need, but on paper he wasn’t my first choice for Saints coach. Not even sure who is anymore to be honest. I think the next coach is going to fail no matter how good he is thanks to a poor front office.

Well that’s definitely why you’re not an NFL executive.
So. Good luck in your janitorial career.

I’ve never tried to be one. I can do better, I’m sure.

The whole coaching market was waiting on Ben Johnson. He was HC1 this cycle

Ben Johnson to the Bears.
maybe he'll realize they actually need a better O-line and not another skill player

I'm gonna bump this thread because I still see post after post about the Saints not being able to hire a coach, mostly blamed on Loomis.
Who have we missed out on so far? I can give you Ben Johnson, who was a hot candidate (and 6 other teams "missed out" on him as well). After that, who did you want?
Did you really have your heart set on Aaron Glenn, of all people? He seems like a nice guy, but did you really want to hire an average defensive coordinator because players like him? Liam Coen?, with one whole year of maintaining the offensive success of Dave Canales at Tampa Bay? Brian Schottenheimer? Please. Vrabel was locked into New England, so wasn't an option for any team once that job opened up.
Let's face it, the pool of candidates this cycle is unimpressive. Most will fail, because most always do. Why don't we let the process play out, and then get pissed and blame Loomis and Gayle for a crappy hire?

There aren’t many head coaching jobs in the NFL. The Saints will find a good coach.

Vrabel, Carroll, Johnson, and Coen were never coming to the Saints
Glenn was a favorite, but Jets may have done us a solid.
I'd say the realistic ranking right now will be:
1. McCarthy
2. Rizzi
3. Brady
4. Weaver
I do really believe Rizzi has a chance, and that would disappoint me greatly.

Carrol and Coen are not "first tier" candidates. Johnson and Vrabel are the only ones that fit that bill. Maybe Glenn, but his defenses routinely sucked.

Pete Carrol would be if he was going to a better organization trying to win now… not many have won a natty and a Super Bowl
