3. Some really bad drafts and trades. Haslett was usually solid in the first but had a lot of misses outside of it

Was he really good in the first? Yes to Deuce and Will Smith of course. I guess you could say Grant and Jamal Brown were solid, but Stallworth was ehh. And the less said about Sullivan, the better.

However I’ll agree he sucked after the first round and with FA. The question though is how much of that was Mueller leaving and Mickey taking over.

Got lucky with Jeff Blake in his first year. After Blake broke his leg against the Raiders, it all went downhill.

This. People forget how good Jeff Blake was that year. He was 7-2 when he broke his leg and was arguably in the MVP race. The Saints lost that game, Brooks went 3-3 as a starter and backed into the first playoff win in team history, and Blake was suddenly done as a starter.

Those years may have been much different if Blake got his job back

Didn't he play an injured Brooks over Jake. If I remember correctly Jake came in for a game sealing third down pass and everyone thought he was finally taking over just for Brooks to come back and shite the bed.

Didn't Start him against the terrible Browns. Win that one and they are in. After that game all I wanted was him gone.

I think Jim Henderson gave Norman Hand the name Heavy Lunch. Norman got loose after splitting a double team and literally swallowed the QB and Henderson yells out, "Heavy Lunch!!!"

Wish Henderson was still doing play by play.

Didn’t we ultimately miss out on the playoffs because Doug Brien shanked a chipshot FG for the Jets against the rams

Aaron Brooks liked to throw the ball backwards to nobody.

I appreciate having you boys here that was actually not a child like me during the Haslett time. I didn't know anything behind the scenes. He really got a Saintsation pregnant??? Lol

That is the word on the street. The rumor is Benson fired Randy Mueller either when he found out Meuller paid for the Saintsations abortion due to Haslett impregnating her or it was when he found out about Meuller signing CB Dale Carter (who had some substance issues) as a Free Agent without consulting Benson.

This was even more evident when Brooks had the throwing shoulder injury and he still wouldn’t roll w Jake to win 1 of 3 games

I was at the last game. It was brutal.

I went to waaaay too many games during the Haslett era. I was at the game where Blake got hurt. Had season tickets in '02. Was at the game where Turley went William Wallace, at the game where Michael Lewis and Joe Horn pulled a cell phone out of the goalposts, etc.

Haslett tanked his own career out of stubbornness in '02. Even before that, the rumor was that he held racial animus toward white football players, and I've grown to believe it. It's a form of self-hatred, and that limits a man.

Something I haven't seen mentioned is the rumors about Willie Roaf's wife. He married some sort of stripper or hooker or whatever, and Walton & Johnson speculated about her liaisons with other players. Low-IQ Yats took this as more than a joke. It turned into a rumor, and a problem.

Was Haslett the one that passed on Jake Delhomme?

2002 season refused to start him when Aaron Brooks was hurt. They were 9-4 and had to win 1 of the last 3 games to get into the playoffs and lost all three. I have family that know Delhomme and they said he told Haslett to rest Brooks and he would win at least 1 of the last 3 or so I was told. I heard Haslett was not easy to deal with.

it was real, joe horn fricked willies wife

he apologized to willie, but willie was done (in his mind) with the saints after that. its one thing when a ramdom does it, but cant blame him when its a teammate that fricks you wife

willie did an interview after leaving the team, saying the ultimate betrayal from a teammate was what made staying in NO not an option for him
