Pleasantly surprised on this one. I figured Onyemata was out of our price range. Very underrated player and was a huge reason why we have been so good against the run. This all but assures Rankins leaves next season.

3 yr 27 mill contract. 18 mill guaranteed. Not terrible on saints part but a little higher than i expected.

Onyemata's contract is actually a bargain. Other players at that position are getting a shite load more.

He’s paid as a top 16-17 player at that position. Wouldn’t call it a bargain. However, not terrible either. I will give him that he is very solid against the run.

He’s a good 3rd dt but that’s starter money. Think it’s an overpay based on past production. Reminds me of the contract Hicks signed with the Bears a few years ago, meaning the saints must think he’s gonna break out more than he’s shown.
Was kinda hoping if he got a big contract, we could steal Hargrave from Pittsburg but he also got a bigger deal than I expected.

He was great in his 3rd year (2018), & is easily worth that money if he plays like that going forward.
He wasn't as good in 2019, but he was still very solid.
We had to pay him starter money if we wanted to keep him, b/c he's played like a starter for at least the last 2 years. He also gets a ton of snaps for a backup, & we can keep rotating our DT's without any drop in production.
I think other teams would have offered him more, but I think he wanted to say in NO. I really don't think it's even close to an overpay. I think it's either his market value or maybe even a small bargain. jmo.
He's also a prime candidate to improve a lot this year. His contract might look like a complete steal in a year or 2. We'll see eventually.
