8. New Orleans Saints Jordyn Tyson, WR, – A Grade
The Saints were able to get the No. 1 receiver in this class at No. 8. Great job! It’s nice that they can help a young (sort of) quarterback with an additional weapon, especially with Chris Olave being such an injury risk. Speaking of injury risks, Tyson has some durability concerns, but nothing like a knee or anything. Mike Evans also has hamstring issues, and I doubt the Buccaneers regret drafting and paying him.

They REALLY didn't like the Ty Simpson pick

13. Los Angeles Rams Ty Simpson, QB, Alabama – WHAT BIG KIELBASAS MILLEN GRADE
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Sorry. This is one of the dumbest picks I’ve ever seen. The Rams are on the verge to win the Super Bowl right now. They needed the best player available to put them over the top. Instead, they selected a one-year starter who melted down in every big game. There’s a chance Simpson wouldn’t have been the starter at Alabama had he returned to school.

Some will compare this to the Packers drafting Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love, but the difference is that the Packers didn’t reach on them. They took those two quarterbacks, and Rodgers was a massive value. This is a huge reach. I can’t believe the Rams made what could be the dumbest selection in NFL history if it costs them a Super Bowl.

For all you youngins in 1979 draft the New Orleans Saints drafted with the 11th pick Russell Erxleben Punter from Texas.

Nobody will ever beat that. Ty Simpson is nowhere near the worst pick ever.

The saints alone have 20 worse first round picks. Jonathan Sullivan was like 5 Ty Simpsons

Talented QB sits behind one of the best veterans for a year or two then takes over in one of the best offensive system and coach around....

Same people gave the Chiefs a C for drafting Mahomes

So you prioritize rebuilding over making a SB run? They could have gotten Simpson later

I was texting a friend prior to that pick and we both thought the Rams were going to grab the stud TE from OR for another weapon to an already potent OFF. Considering they are 'win now', the Simpson pick is a head-scratcher. Much better options in next year's crop of QBs.

Doesn't really fit their offense

for another weapon

Lemon and Puka would have a lot of overlap b/c Lemon is basically slot only right now and that's where Puka eats

The "win now" options were limited at best

Pure McVay arrogance. He thinks he can make anyone into a winning QB.

They drafted him against McVay's wishes. He was pissed in the presser and said Ty would have to compete with Stetson in camp.

And there was another interview, with Kay Adams???, where he said he didn't do a lot of HW on Simpson.

Sounds like the marriage might be a tad rocky there. Winning cures all, but I can see a bad season leading to McVay getting fired and the GM bringing in someone willing to work with his QB.

No

Now McVay retiring? Certainly possible, and has been possible for years, hence the need to grab a good QB prospect when they won't have a shot again for a few years.

Well….first off I don’t think anyone they picked there was going to put them over the top for a SB, the writer is a little over the top there

But then yeah…do you want to go all in one more run putting all of your eggs in one basket ? What if Stafford, who typically gets banged up, goes down next season?

or would you rather do something that doesn’t really do much for the current team that’s already one of the leagues best but sets you up to get multiple cracks at a title in the future ? The saints bet it all on more run and it didn’t pan out because winning a Super Bowl is hard as shite. Maybe we don’t spend years aimlessly wandering had we been more aggressive in those final years getting Drew’s heir lined up.

I don’t think Simpson is good….but I’m not going to pretend I have superior qb eval skills over McCvay, so if he’s aggressively going after Simpson then I’m going to give him some deserved benefit of the doubt. Now if the Browns or Jets over drafted Simpson? Yes go ahead and mock them.

Apparently that's the problem. McVay did not want Simpson, said did not look into him much, and said he needs to compete to even be the backup/get a roster spot.

If McVay was behind the move things might be different, but it seems he was actively against it.

In his defense, he was also a kicker and a QB, and he did those things about as well as he punted…

They lost a Thursday night road game in week 15 by 1 on a 2 point conversion otherwise they are the 1 seed, no guarantees of course but it’s fair to say they would have been favored hosting the NFCCG and in the SB. They have an old QB that’s already won a SB when you are that close you go all in to make a SB run you go all in. You say one player they could have drafted won’t put them over the top, well he certainly won’t if he’s not even playing. At WR they have Puka who is great but does have injury history and now off the field issues and D Adams who is old for a WR so who’s to say a player like Lemon doesn’t help. Their ST cost them a couple games, including the aforementioned week 15 maybe a defensive player or lineman helps there. Worry about that he future later, if Simpson wasn’t there in 2nd Beck Or Nussmirer are talented guys with upside
