True or False:
Even if the Saints do sign Derek Carr, the deal would likely be for 3-4 years at most, and he's 32 (in March).
Should the Saints also draft QBs relatively high, regularly, until they find their QB of the future?
Or should they let the Carr thing play out for a year or two, use the higher draft picks (rounds 1-4) to surround him with young talent, and revisit it in 2-4 years?

I would say next year but Carr is probably good for 9 or 10 wins, an early playoff exit, and a middling draft pick

I say if we sign car we look for someone in the later rounds. If no carr I think we take the highest qb on our board in the first or second round.

I’m all for doing that next year. I just have little interest in Hooker or McKee. I’d much rather see us take one next year

Yeah we can pick up a guy in mid to late rounds to see what happens or at least have depth.

False. Next 2 years you can possibly take a flier on someone in the 3rd or later if you have a high grade on him. But, if you are signing Carr, you have a lot of holes you still need to fill to give him the supporting team he needs to be successful.
I think after his 2nd year you will either be contending for SBs, or you need to start investing in early draft picks for a QB.

IMO if we do get Carr I think you plan on him being your QB, and look to FA for a backup. Maybe Dalton will resign as that backup.
I wouldn't burn a draft pick this season or next possibly on a QB of the future. maybe if a quality project guy is available in the 5th or 6th you take a shot or if after the '23 season you aren't confident in Carr you look at a higher pick but I believe if you get Carr you commit to him.

In the mid-to-late round sure. Not early on - that can happen in the following years' drafts.

If you sign Carr, you don’t have as much money to spend on free agents or resign your own players any we will need to supplement through the draft. We have a lot of holes to fill (OL, DL, S, WR & RB). We need to fill as many of those positions through the draft as possible.

Watching last night, it makes me wonder-
Daniels from LSU (and Arizona State, for all you anti-LSU guys). Seems like he can do everything Hurts can (except you don't want to hammer him into a QB sneak from 2 yds out, like the Eagles did a few times). Possibly a better passer already.
I know the LSU fans love to disparage him, but say he's there in the second rd next year (2024)- you take or leave?
This would be if you do take Carr, and can sit and develop the guy a couple years.
I'd say- think long about it at 2nd, nobrainer if we can add another pick that rd.

If we don't sign Carr I'd like to hold on to Dalton another year and take the best QB available at our pick in next year's draft.

You have to draft a qb every other year imo.
Unless you have a tom brady or drew brees.

It would have to be a guy with high end physical talent that falls like Willis did last year to go using picks on QBs if you already have a real QB1 on the roster. I still wouldn't mind Hooker in the 3rd this year, better than drafting somebody like Book or Garrett Grayson like the Saints have done recently. Neither of those guys had any kind of elite physical tools.
I usually go into drafts thinking the FO knows what they're doing but the last 2 years of a couple decent picks and the rest junk is kind of concerning.

True, and they should draft one every year until they finally find him. Carr is not the solution; he's simply a stop gap.
The most important position on the football team should not go ignored, and you do everything you have to do to make sure a solution is finally found.
