Sporting News ranks Payton Turner as 2nd worst value pick in round 1

Saints: Payton Turner, DE
Round 1, pick 28
Payton Turner is a talented athlete, but not many saw him going in the late stages of the first round. He was ranked 68th and 60th on the consensus big boards, respectively. It was also a curious selection, considering Gregory Rousseau, who also plays defensive end, was still available and was ranked higher on every big board out there. We'll find out in the long run if the Saints saw something the rest of the NFL Draft world didn't.

Lol. I love it.
We got a guy that loves football. Every expert is saying worst 1st round pick value. This has peyton written all over it.
Out of all of peytons reaches, one has to pan out. Im looking forward to this.

So he was rated only 3 picks lower than he should have been.

Idc what the experts think. Dude said he knew several teams that wanted him ranging from picks 20-40.

What? He was rated in the 60s we picked him in the top 30. He was 30 something spots where he should have been....

So fricking what? He went where he was supposed to be taken because that is where we took him. Draft day player rankings/forecasts dont mean shite. Stop harping on meaningless pointless shite that you can’t change.

Yeah, it would be one thing if we passed up on Farley or Newsome to scoop this guy up, but we didn’t. I’m willing to give him a shot. Davenport is oft injured, Granderson is talented, but no guarantee, the free agent we got is an accountant, and Cam Jordan is great, but his production fell off the face of the earth last year. Need wise, I understand the pick.

He will be defensive rookie of the year. No one knows, half the league is undrafted and all of these picks are a crap shoot.

There is a reason these schmucks are making "big boards" and not working in nfl front offices

Of course we’ll have to wait a few years to find out. But if CLE or BAL had made this pick right before us this board including myself would've been laughing our asses off at them for such a reach.

Rankings mean nothing...the draft is all about how the individual teams grade the players to fit in their systems. JOK was ranked as a top 20 player, yet everyone passed on him because he is a tweener. In an ideal world, we trade back a few spots and still get Turner, but the immediate run on DEs shows that wasn't going to happen.

This is what I've been saying for the past 2-3 days.
Dude wasn't making it out of the 1st round imo.

I thought it was one of the most patient & smart drafts that the Saints have ever had. We acquired most of our needs, & didn't give up any 2022 draft capital.

Sporting news 2018 draft grades.
"Buffalo Bills: D
Draft picks: QB Josh Allen (Wyoming), OLB Tremaine Edmunds (Virginia Tech), DT Harrison Phillips (Stanford), CB Taron Johnson (Weber State), S Siran Neal (Jacksonville State), G Wyatt Teller (Virginia Tech), WR Ray-Ray McCloud (Clemson), WR Austin Proehl (North Carolina)
Edmunds and Phillips were the standout picks for Sean McDermott's front seven in his first draft with Brandon Beane. But this grade is based on the fact that Allen is likely to be a big-armed bust. The QB wasn't worth the trade, especially at the cost of two second-rounders. The Bills drafted like a team set to return to the playoffs; their glaring weaknesses on the offensive line and at wide receiver should have been addressed earlier. QB desperation is never a good way to draft, and it led to a chain reaction that gave Allen and AJ McCarron little support.
You are right, Sporting News is gospel. Y'all crack me up.

That the thing...they aren't experts. The majority are just people who watch some highlights and rank players based off of other rankings.
