Facing 4th and 1 or 2 while tied or leading:
Sean Payton between 2019 and 2021 went for it 20 of 23 times.
Dennis Allen has faced that situation 5 times and has kicked 5 field goals.

I should add because this is unclear that this is only plays where they went for it or kicked FGs, no punts.

Including punts:
SP 2019-2021 - 20 go for it, 3 FG, 22 punts.
DA - 5 FG, 8 punts

The team is a reflection of it's head coach. Most teams feared a Payton led team, people now look forward to playing us.

The pass on 3rd and 1 only makes sense if you're willing to go on 4th

I like the pass call because we were not going to run for a yard up the middle against Tampa’s big bodies. I would have preferred a flip 90 run to kamara to get him on the edge and outrun the LB to the sticks.
But that’s jus’ me

Um, a Taysom power QB run should net you 1 yard against any team in any situation.

Dalton sneak most likely gets you that yard too

That's fair.

It just shows how conservative allen is. He is a pussy who plays it safe and that loses against good qbs/good teams

Not every stat is a microcosm of a team's problems, but this one is. Even Allen doesn't believe he and his guys can get the critical yards when they absolutely must.

It also shows the issue with hiring a defensive head coach in a scoring league. They're all trying to win 9-3.
Just like Bowles punting the ball away to us late in the 4th. It was an awful decision from a defensive minded coach that would have lost him that game 99% of the time. But Dennis Allen was across the field.

If Ingram steps one foot over the left untouched then the Saints win and everyone is talking about Bowles.

kamara hasnt had an outside run called since payton left the team. they use him as a power back running straight into the middle averaging 1-2 yards per carry. that is by the design of DA offense to never use kamara in situations he excels at where he can get out in space

Dennis Allen coaches like a scared coward and it's reflected in how his team plays.

This is the kind of stuff that puts Sean's tenure in perspective. He'd do things that would make you scratch your head, but it was all done with aggression in mind or keeping the opponent off balance. Allen is not capable of that.

Per this model by Ben Baldwin, we’ve gone for it on 4th down zero times when we “should” have.
You can debate the criteria used, which is listed at the top of the chart, but you can’t debate that the saints are by far the most conservative team in football.
