Perhaps the NFL could take the lead on this? They could do a pilot program on NFL players and retirees, get all the guns out of their hands and see how well they do with that microcosm of thugs and domestic abusers. Perhaps surrendering of all weapons could be a requirement to draw a pay check or a pension check?

Except that taking drugs, alcohol, pharmaceuticals are a personal choice. Getting mowed down by a maniac is not.
