I’d say 90% of this board is still quick to defend the saints FO anytime someone criticizes them like when anyone second guessed their choices the past couple nights. I don’t see that continuing when we look like shite again this year. I don’t see how we are going to get much better before the season starts. And the draft picks don’t even have the ceilings to be better than their replacements. Foskey projects to be what Davenport was not even what he could have been. Maybe Bresee can be better than Onyemata? Miller certainly can’t be better than Kamara in his prime. We think Carr is going to be as good as Brees at his age?

We got ya debbie...its all sh!t. Be well.

It was just Trautman for the cost of swapping picks.

The way you phrased it makes it sound like we gave up 2 picks.

Yeah sorry. I just meant give trautman and a 4th to move into the 3rd.

Look I’m a life long Saints fan and I’m hoping I’m completely wrong, I want someone to show me how I am wrong. I just don’t see how they made us better this weekend. I thought I’d be frickin pumped with how deep this draft was and how many picks we actually had this year.

To be fair I’m not on board with all these picks but I think overall this may have helped a bit. Honestly this team will be worse until it gets better. I don’t think Dennis Allen is the answer and I’m expecting a down year by this team.

Trautman screams replacement level, not very worried.

You aren’t worried even though He graded out better than Juwan Johnson did in 2022 ?

He had the 4th most snaps out of any skill player on the team last year.

The offense wasn’t great but they also haven’t added to that room. They sure played him like he had some importance

Juwan and Taysom are main two but seems like Moreau will be back in the mix. He’s a strong blocking TE. So after looking at it again, I think we will be ok at the position but may get some FA looks.

If you think finding a good blocking TE is

being a good TE is way more than blocking, anybody can block, if it was so easy to find good TE we wouldnt have had all the bad ones we had

Yeah goat Johnson is MILES better as a pass catcher, which is a much harder consistent skill to find in a TE.

If we want a blocker we can find one. We have one in Hill, who catches at least as well as Trautman did to boot.

This isn't some great loss. xD

So this was the only article I found that potentially mentions that he could return in October for Foster. But I’m asking is it honestly reasonable to ask a guy who just finished battling cancer, hey come play TE in the middle of our season without training camp or preseason??! Just seems a little ridiculous but hes a LSU player so I guess he could do anything.

Taysom Hill was used as an extra blocker twice last year.

But hey who’s counting

Yeah but how many times was he actually used on running plays where he actually was blocking(like playing FB or split out) rather than just brought in as an extra blocker? Not trying to disagree, just curious because you have to take that into account as well.

He’s used more on running plays but it’s a joke if you think he’s going to be able to pass block edge rushers if needed.

I like Taysom as a weapon but that strength does not come with playing TE.

Juwan Johnson is an ok pass catcher but he is a 1 dimensional guy. He’s propped up by fantasy football when in reality he was the only receiving weapon at times on a bad team. He caught balls because he had to catch balls. If you are going to play him a lot you need a guy to offset his weaknesses and they don’t have that now

I agree on that but I’m not going to just dismiss Juwan as having good stats on bad team thing. 42 catches 508 yards and 7 TDs is really good considering our qbs were complete trash. Also why I think Olave was amazing as well in that regard. He also made some difficult catches and showed he could get in the end zone. That being said they need a TE, like you said that can focus more in blocking- something tells me they are high on Krull and why this move for Trautman was made.

Its douchey because thats the unreasonable standards fans have? Im not criticizing him at all, Im criticizing the people on this board who actually think hes going to be physically ready to play this season after battling cancer. Its absurd to even think that but you know fighting stage 2 cancer and playing football within months is such an easy thing to do. Smh. I view him as a human being not like you who just sees him as a LSU grad who just needs to play this seasin to help the Saints. It’s ridiculous people actually think he will have the capacity to play this year.

We can find someone. Geoff Swaim and Tyler Kroft had similar PFF grades to Trautman and are currently available.

It’s not a crisis
