Someone else has to be willing to give up anything for him.

Is he worth a NFL spot on a team? I don’t know I think you’re giving a bit too much importance on Trautman. He’s definitely replaceable and not someone I would worry about if they cut him out right.

He was terrible.

i dont know if i would go that far, but he wasnt great, and with no real competition, he seemed serviceable at least.

im not sad he is gone but i am puzzled as to why since they did nothing to upgrade TE position in FA or draft so far

i guess they have something in mind, but this move is very puzzling.

They resigned Juwan to a decent contract. Still have Taysom. They like Krull. I dont know doesnt seem like that bad of a spot. They could easily find a decent blocking TE through free agency or drafted guys.

Good trade for both teams. Saints pick up a need at WR and free up cap money. Peyton gets someone who already knows his offense.

He graded out better than Juwan Johnson did in 2022

He had the 4th most snaps out of any skill player on the team last year.

The offense wasn’t great but they also haven’t added to that room. They sure played him like he had some importance

if it was that easy we would have them on the team already

finding a good TE isnt that easy, as shown by our recent history

Im not going to argue grade wise because Johnson cant block but considering Saints resigned him I think Saints see extreme upside in his pass catching ability. I mean Dalton was our starting qb for most of the season and we let him go. Playing lot of minutes doesn’t mean he was actually good for our shitty offense last season. I think they gave him a chance last season to prove himself but with his injuries/consistency he just didn’t pan out. Again not a guy I would deem irreplaceable and just another random TE honestly.

Id be shocked if they opened the year as the #2.

This was probably them calling Payton and asking if he wanted trautman because they liked a player coming up at that pick. Or Payton called them.

Probably laughing at his lack of development by the nimrods he left on the offensive staff.

The saints are not in a good spot at TE at all

Trautman never lived up to his billing from day 1. I was big on him.

Payton just left last year. The nimrod he left to coach tight ends got fired, so I don't know what you are getting at.

You act like the Saints tight end room was great before this trade.

Trautman was basically a blocker. They should be able to fill that role for this year. Still some decent blockers out there.

After the draft some guys will get cut.

Agreed. But if Trautman is only better at blocking and his pass catching skills aren’t that impressive, I really don’t think its that difficult finding a blocking TE in free agency, on your roster, and/or undrafted guys. I also think they’re pretty high on Krull.

I will say this wasthe draft to come away with a tight end.

If it was me I probably would given a 3rd next year and maybe a 5th this year to try and get back into the 3rd.

What they should've done is given the the broncos trautman and a 2024 5th to try and get back in this year's 3rd or 4th round.

Did Payton not hire his offensive assistants? This is a weird comment.

Hill has been WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more of a true TE than Trautman ever was or will be.

The argument isn’t if he lived up to his billing or not.

The argument is what do you have that is better. And why are you giving him away to pick a guy unlikely to ever contribute.

Dude you value Trautman way too high. No NFL team in their right mind would take that trade. This is a fourth round pick that honestly didn’t do anything overly productive.

Johnson and Hill are both EASILY better.

Do we need another TE? Yes. Should that have been Trautman? I think that question was definitively answered last season.

You can argue the pick we made. That is yet to be seen though. But getting rid of a guy who rarely contributed for a guy who might isn't a bad move in itself.
