Payton said their two options were Mahomes and Lattimore. Worked out for us regardless, but what could’ve been.

That draft gave us another 3 year window. I'll never be mad at that, but having a franchise QB would be so nice...

Lattimore will be retired while Mahomes is still bringing his team on Super Bowl runs. This isn't an apples to apples comparison because of the importance, impact & longevity to be able to play the QB position. Saints lost out. Mahomes>>>>>>Lattimore

Andy Reid is having the end of his career that Payton would have had if he had sense enough to trade up for the guy he loves to brag about being the greatest QB he's ever scouted.

If thats the case, its unforgivable to get jumped in the draft. I don't care if Lattimore was guaranteed to be the next Deion.

Bragging about how good the class was for the Saints is cool, but KC got the guy, at the position, that actually wins you Superbowls.

There was an interview with Mahomes where he says he called Reid and told him to move up or the Saints were going to get him. He always wanted KC

Yep, if you love a guy as much as Payton said he loved Mahomes, you absolutely have to move up to get a player like that. NFL is a QB league. There is absolutely no substitute for having what Payton supposedly believed to be an ELITE-elite QB prospect behind your all-time elite QB.

That immediate switch -- Favre-Roders, Manning-Luck, Montana-Young-type shite doesn't happen often.

Brees-Mahomes.

What could've been.

When the two options are Lattimore and Mahomes it most certainly did not work out for us

Nope.

But good franchises make tough decisions when it's time.

I just checked and it looks like Brees was on a 1 year $24.25mm deal through 2017. He signed a 2 year $50mm deal in 2018. Patrick Mahomes threw 50 TD that year.

What really pissed me off is when we passed on Tom Brady. Stupidest thing the Saints ever did.

Yes, Payton has always said we were going to take Mahomes but what is really shocking is about 11 other teams passed on Mahomes & took guys like Mitch Trubisky instead.

Craziest part about Mitch going ahead of Mahomes is at some point the Bears we’re all on Mahomes and at some point in the final days the decided Mitch was the better guy so they traded a handful of picks to go up 1 spot to make sure they got him

Could have dumped Brees after 1 season with Mahomes on the roster and gotten some good resources.
