Source: the Saints’ cap moves are underway, as they’ve converted $14.565M of Michael Thomas’ compensation for 2022 and $18,206,608 of OT Ryan Ramczyk’s compensation for 2022 into signing bonuses, creating $26.217M in cap space.

It was extremely obvious to anyone with knowledge of the NFL salary cap that Michael Thomas would be a Saint next season at the least, but this board has many who thought otherwise. This move makes it pretty much a 100% reality.

I wish this was a joke.

But there will be a crap ton of moves by the team that will get us cap solvent.

I also haven't kept up so I am not sure if they are calculating with the final cap limit for 2022 or if they actually even know that now.

Don’t think it’s been finalized, but they can speculate within a few million bc the cap is based off of a percentage of prior year revenues

The number is high, but that also has a lot of those large roster bonuses that Mickey always converts to other types of bonuses to spread the number out. Probably looking at another $25-30M that they can take off without having to really do anything. And that’s just looking at Latt, Taysom & AK’s contracts.

With the new league beginning on March 16th, these moves are about to happen very quickly.

So if Thomas is still injured and doesn't play this year are we just out of the money? I assume we didn't have many other choices either way.

Using the term "cap hell" is the epitome of lazy journalism for me. Rotoworld uses it all the time.

I read something along the lines of they could shave $100mm without cutting a single player.

It's typical clickbait bullshite. The type of headlines the uninformed loves to eat up.
