theorectically you are saying CSP can never coach again if the Saints wanted it that way.
There is no link. He’s just taking what he wants to be the case and speaking it as fact. Nobody knows for sure.

He’s arguing what other teams have argued. He didn’t make it up.

Yeah he's for sure walking in 25. No one is paying that.

Payton, appearing on the most recent episode of the Manningcast, said in jest (we think) regarding Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, “He has a chance to be a free agent, and I have a chance to be a free agent.”
There’s a very slim chance of either happening. The Ravens won’t let Jackson walk away. The Saints surely won’t let Payton walk away, either. The Saints still hold Payton’s contractual rights, at least through 2024. Arguably, they’re entitled to compensation for his services indefinitely.
He left with three years remaining on his contract. The Saints could take the position that he can’t simply sit out for three years and then go wherever he wants, that his contract tolls after he voluntarily walks away. It’s an issue that could end up in a legal battle if a coach ever quits with one year left on his contract, and then tries to join another team after sitting out a year. It won’t be an issue with Payton, because he won’t be sitting out three years. He almost didn’t sit out one year.
This has been my position from the beginning, before Florio started writing about it.

Asking and receiving are 2 different things. Saints will ask for 2 1st round picks, but will end up taking a 1st and a 2nd... maybe 1sf and 3rd depending on where 1st is

Tell you what Arizona. We'll take your first this year and call it a deal. We'll even throw in Loomis and a couple Sean Payton favorites on the roster to help us out on cap.
Or if they want to give us their first next year then the next I'm okay with that too because the less Dennis Allen has to work with in the draft the better for us. I sure as shite don't trust him to manage our picks correctly. Hopefully he gone by the time Saints stockpile draft picks.
Imagine this dumbass looking at the draft board on draft day.
"how many picks do I trade away to frick the saints by drafting an OL/DL"

I thought he had a nice draft last season

Who and when bunchy?
You would certainly think we could hold him in perpetuity. But he has stated at least twice he will be free when his contract runs out

Talking about Dak’s contract,
But Saints don’t hold 2 years in perpetuity on Payton. He is a “free agent” after 24 season… they don’t forever have his rights for 2 years. Why you think there is all this talk of him just going back to broadcasting?

Broncos 2023 1st and 2024 2nd is my prediction. Hopefully we grab one of their 2023 3rds too

Think of it this way. If the shoe was on the other foot and the Saints fired Sean would Sean get paid for the last 3 years of his agreement? Of course! The same concept applies here although not quite as expressed in contractual terms. The Saints are owed 3 years from Sean.

How often does a SB winning HC retire with 3 years left on his contract with the actual desire to coach? From Sean's statements, you could argue there wasn't a clear and earnest decision to retire.
I doubt it gets to end of 2024 and still at this place. Something will happen beforehand, but if it doesn't I would expect the Saints to challenge that Sean is a FA coach. That would likely be settled behind a backdoor or arbitration, but I personally don't see Payton being allowed to "retire out of his contract".

Good. I’d rather nothing at all then accept a lackluster package. He left us high and dry. The bed has been made. 2 firsts or frick off to the booth and let the game pass you by until 2025.

4D chess move by Payton to tell Loomis to ask for an absurd haul so teams in unappealing situations will stop contacting him for their job openings.

Loomis needs to set expectations high
