Exactly nobody thought we can sign 3 linebackers, a starting DT, and one of the best guards in the NFL. Plus also resign Brees and colston. When it comes to figuring out the money we got the best in the business.

Hypotheticall of course...

Damn Brees would have about 25 seconds in the pocket with him added into the lineup.

Honestly, I think Bushrod comes back here for less money. I don't think his FA market is nearly what he thinks it is.

he got almost $10million for the past two years. That $$ ain't going down. Some teams with big LT needs that won't be in the sweepstakes for the elite top 3 in the draft. Kromer could sell him into Chicago.

Well, with the situ the team is in cash wise, I'd be pissed if we over pay for his pedestrian services. I'd rather let him go and groom someone else on the cheap. Hell, IMO Brees elevates the game of some of these average talent guys on the line due to his leadership and presence. Would you want to be the one out there responsible for Brees getting mauled in the pocket or injured? Just the thought of backlash from Payton/Brees would make me play harder to keep my side of the line anchored and clean.

I don't see it, but Charles Brown to LT would be a lot less surprising shocker than when Bushrod was inserted at LT. I don't think Bushman had any regular season snaps. It would actually be the ideal answer capwise if he was deemed ready enough.

Agreed

Jamaal Brown wasn't exactly a pro-bowler before Brees got here and he wasn't one after he left

Who the hell was Bushrod?

It wouldn't bother me in the least if he left. I'd like to sign him for what he's worth, but he's technically a pro-bowl LT so he'll probably get much more than he's worth. I just hope it isn't us that pays it. We have enough shitty contracts on the books.

I don't think you read the quote or understood it. Everyone knows what it means.

It means if the Saints don't re-sign Bushrod, the next preffered option is to explore signing Long.

Quit trying so hard.

When asked if anything was happening with talks with the Saints, tackle Jermon Bushrod said via text message late Wednesday night, “Not that I know of. Just trying to patiently wait.”
It's looking more and more like the Saints will allow Bushrod, their top unrestricted free agent, to test the market rather than trying to sign him to a long-term deal before other teams can talk to players' agents March 9.

he knows they missed their big opportunity last year. It starts to unravel this year. For the birds I predict the rest of this decade will be like the 80's Mora Saints stuck in the same division with the Niners. Hoping, wishing, wanting, even a few wild card tries but the window closes with one wildcard game win as the history.

You hear this alot from players and their agent that "they have heard nothing so we will test the waters".

Can it really be that the agent doesn't even have a ballpark from the Saints? I can't imagine that the FO would just stonewall the negotiations and offer nothing. If they truely want him back how do you take the chance that he would return with his tail between his legs cause he received crappy offers.
Now if they have him graded poorly after watching film then you could understand and that they have their eye on someone in FA.

Loomis is a lot closer to Walt Disney than you. Negotiate from strength. Communicate that we'd like to have you back but at the right price. See what is offered with the chance to counter. I think his first choice is here. If it is close nudge up a token amount. If it is way too much, say thanks and move on.

never did people think we'd be able to sign a ben grubbs if we lost on carl nicks. Not too indifferent of a situation.

Not just Grubbs, everyone they signed. No one thought the Saints could do anything last offseason. They are going to have way more money to spend on free agents this year. How much more do some people think Long would get than Bushrod? I'm in on signing Long. I think the guy was getting tired of playing on a crap team.
