4 of 10. He didn't do anything to impress me.

Rattler a C+
Would have to watch All-22 to see the whole field on some passes. First thought is he needs to try to push the ball downfield more, but he played in the first half so no need to take too many chances and potentially throw INTs like Shough & Haener did. He really didn’t have much time either on several throws. He did tuck and run on several pretty quickly which were good & bad results. Definitely needs to work on ball security when in the pocket, another strip sack today after a few last year also.

Shough B-
Made some plays, a few good quick reads & throws when playing against zone. Missed a big play to Austin Jr, then obviously the INT. Showed some potential though

Rattler was QB1 by all accounts before the game, and this game did not change that in my opinion, though it did shorten Rattlers lead.

Curious to see what both do next week with hopefully a full OL & WRs

Not good.

Scale of 1-10
He was a 3.

Grade: D-

Rattler is not an NFL caliber starter.
If he sticks around and works his arse off, he might be able to carve out a 3-4 year career as a backup NFL QB. He would do better to go learn how to play in the CFL.

D. He is scared to throw the ball down the field. If you are going to throw the ball 5 yards short of the sticks on 3rd down you aren't going to win like that.

I thought he was smart. Not throwing into coverage, scampering for positive yards when protection fell apart. He moves the chain.
His problem was awful run blocking when he was in. Hard to believe they didn't score when they were deep early on. A QB needs to have a semblance of a run game, too. Chargers DL is very formidable.

It's exactly the same as last year.

There's nothing there that makes you think he could be a starter in this league.

He only has this opportunity because of circumstance. He's not a playmaker. And, he certainly isn't someone who looks like he is above average from a mental standpoint.

While he didn't throw any INTs, he was indecisive. That was disappointing for a 2nd year player. While it's important to not throw INTs, a QB has to make plays. Indecisive play leads to minimal scoring.

If he entered the game as the #1 guy (and it appears he did), he didn't do anything to widen that gap

Shough has a much higher ceiling.
He looked calm and moved around easier.
I think he’s your starter week 1.

AND took 3 sacks, but one was pretty much at the line of scrimmage. Still, he has to try and avoid that. This team is not talented enough to overcome negative plays.
Radunz was beaten within 1 -1.5 seconds on 2 of the sacks (including the fumble).

you do know that was against the chargers back up D-line right?
Just don't tell him most of our starting Oline was in with Rattler at one point.

D-. Didn’t do anything great, didn’t do anything completely awful. Did literally nothing to be honest. Looked like a guy who shouldn’t be a starter in this league.

Rattler was 7/11 with 3 drops. Should have scored points off the turnover in the red zone but i can't put all of that on Rattler.

Shough had twice as many attempts as Rattler against more back ups. You take away the 54 yd TD and he only has 111 total passing yards. And yes, Rattler can also make the same 54 yd TD throw to Tipton in that situation.

So the numbers are pretty similar and it's kind of a wash for me but have no problem with Shough starting game 2. Biggest tell of the game was letting Shough getting the last possession of the first half but i still don't know what to make of that yet. Will have to see how the snaps go in practice and the game this week.

2 of those "drops" were bad throws (one behind the receiver and one into tight coverage).

I like what i've seen from Shough so far too and am fine with whoever the coaches want to start. I just want to avoid a situation where Shough starts and then has to be benched for Rattler and I haven't seen enough to take that chance.

I could see Shough starting this week and Rattler playing 2nd and both putting up similar numbers as the other did against the Chargers.

I really could not gauge anything out of this game. Chargers rested starters too. I call a draw . Letter grade”C” for both QB’s.

He looked terrible imo. Shough looks like he potentially could be good, but he’s a few years away from what the Saints need for consistency in the QB spot.

I started a thread on it during the game. He is extremely shortsighted. Overall: 3/10
