quote:What I think LE's saying is that it was a quickness move. I don't think Thomas makes that move, either. Pierre Thomas is just really good at straight ahead running and making people miss or getting that extra bit of yardage. He always seems to do it. But Cadet's quickness was what got that TD.
Why not? It wasn't some incredible move

Because pierre isn't that sudden and Crisp running routes. He's great at the screen and swing pass or a dump down. But he's not much of a threat to get separation on a route from a LB or DB, and never really has been

I think Evans has to have some lingering injury. He's always been fit, kept his conditioning up every season, and has played all-pro for years until last year when he got a hamstring/ankle(?) and a lower back injury.
His dropoff is intense and if it can't be remedied, the business side of it tells me we have to have him reconsider his contract or cut him...
2015: 11.0mil cap hit (5.0 mil dead money; 6.0mil savings)
2016: 10.2mil cap hit (1.5 mil dead money; 8.7mil savings)
His base contract is 6.8mil. Technically, we could convince him to take roughly a 5mil pay cut to get 1.8mil. Similar to Bunkley's pay cut this year (4.4mil->1.3mil)

As for defense, I really saw some improvement on the back end. Vaccaro was his usual self finally and Robinson looked really good in the slot. Bush held his own, too. Turnovers on offense put them in a bind a lot of the time. Improvement is still needed.
The d-line was not good yesterday, but there were some individual things that were better. John Jenkins getting play time made a difference. On multiple plays, his size and strength helped cave in the pocket. Unfortunately, Jordan has offered nothing in the pass rush department and Junior is struggling. I'd love to see Tyrunn Walker play next to Jenkins because he has been our best interior rusher this year.
I also want to applaud Rob Ryan for that defensive call on the safety where Junior stunted and beat the guard inside for the sack. That's the kind of creativity needed to manufacture sacks, especially when guys aren't winning one-on-one.
Linebackers still make me want to cry.

John Jenkins got 25 snaps (64 total for the team?)
Graded +1.1 (1.1 run defense, -0.1 pass rush, and 0.1 penalty)
You could see the difference he makes by just eating up space. I honestly hope he picks up his conditioning these next 2 weeks, he's our most important DT/NT imo.

I have no idea what happened to Cam Jordan this year.

They should post in the locker room some where the stats that haralson and foster are the only two who graded out positive in the pass rush

I'm not ready to worry about him.

Haralson is having himself a quietly great season. Very good FA acquisition
we traded a seventh round pick for him

That was last year. He was a free agent this off season and we signed him.

Good to see Hicks in the green

People forget Robinson is coming off an ACL and for some players and most normal human beings it takes up to 2 years to get fully back to 100% after that type of injury.
That is only magnified when a player like a CB is required to plant and cut most of the time in response to another player. He has the talent, but God knows what his mental state about his knee are right now.

On the play cadet scored on, Thomas doesn't make that cut out of the route. Cadet has been solid in the passing game
Are you really still sucking off Cadet? Seriously? The dude has been mediocre all season and had one good play, and he now does something Thomas can't in your mind.

the D played better but Tampa's offense isn't that good.
but it isn't like Tampa just came in and had their way either. The D had a shutout going for awhile and then Tampa got a back door TD in the last few minutes before halftime.
last year when we played Tampa on the road they got a pick six on us and then they got another yesterday. But hey, if your looking for good news in the turnover dept. we won yesterday despite committing more than they did.
if you would have told me before the game that we would lose the turnover battle, I might not have even watched the game.

The TB offense put up 24 points vs. Pitts and NO.
Their offense has been moving better with Glennon instead of McCown

Patrick Robinson spent Sunday manning the slot for the first time in his entire career.
Robinson played the bulk of his rookie year in the slot with Porter & Greer on the outside, and that's the only good season Robinson has had & yes that is where he is best suited in the NFL

Jordan was playing well early? He was a ghost in the season opener.

Yes, he was playing well.

He was a ghost in the season opener.
He had 5 hurries and a batted pass. PFF graded him at +2.5. He was getting edge pressure, but Hicks and Bunkley were the ghosts
Against Cleveland, he had 2 QB hits, 3 hurries, and 2 batted balls. Graded out at 3.5. Once again, Hicks and Bunkley did nothing to help the pass rush allowing the QB to step away and avoid sacks
Against Minnesota, he graded out +0.7 even though most think he was most productive. He had 1 QB sack, and 3 hurries but wasn't being as consistent with his pressures.
It is a team game and our DTs have been absolutely awful at everything they do. They finally showed up in the run game this week at least.
John Jenkins had 2 hurries and 1 stop in 25 snaps. Hicks has 5 for the entire year and Bunkley has 3 in 152
