It also seems the Saints are pretty set on picking another Rookie QB this year at some point in the draft...

Howell second round.

Serious question - who was the last good QB to be drafted in the 2nd round?

There's been some 3rd+ round guys like Russ, Dak, obviously Brady, etc..... but 2nd round seems like a no beuno
historically.

I could be completely wrong, but he just doesn’t impress me that much as an NFL prospect. Kinda reminds me of Baker Mayfield, Zach Wilson or Johnny Manziel.

Don’t care. I think he’s flying under the radar for dumb reasons. He was projected number 1 pick coming into the year. He is being downgraded cause all his skill guys got drafted and team had a down year.

His comp is Baker Mayfield, except Howell is bigger, more athletic, and has a better arm. Also doesn’t seem to have the problematic personality of Baker. Look at his numbers. He’s been awesome from the moment he stepped on campus.

And he’s young. I’ve been saying it, this is the guy I would take a chance on in this draft. It makes no sense how a less talented qb like Pickett can vault up over him based on one year, which was Pickett’s fifth year and he’s two years older.

I think he will too but it's b/c I don't think the others will amount to much. There is potential, sure, but success is a longshot.

Ridder is also the most likely to be able to start from day 1, IMHO. He's shown, by far, the best mental acumen at QB in this year's draft.

I still prefer the Howell gamble, but only with, say, a 2nd (for us).

Chris Simms has him the number 1 QB of this draft. I can't stand Simms, but he has a pretty good record with his first choice overall.

I like Chris Simms. He actually said that Alec Pierce's lack of production at WR was because Ridder isn't great at finding the open receiver

After the mid-1st the odds aren't great at all.

The problem this year is none of the QBs are worth that, even. The thought of using capital to move up for one is just insane to me.

Corral has a lot of upside - he's fast, athletic, twitchy, and has a quick release. There are zero concerns about his arm.

Unlike Willis, he can function inside of the pocket, and he's accurate on short and intermediate throws, which in a Sean Payton type offense (assuming we don't divert too much from his tendencies) that uses the whole field, he can excel potentially.

If we draft someone like Willis, we have to use more of the Taysom style offense.

There's a lot of denial on this board.

I love Jameis and think he can be special. However, he did just tear his ACL.

Rolling with Jameis is great but, I also think its wise to draft a first round QB as insurance, especially one who can run. We have been really good with these types (see Taysom Hill).

Best man will win. Best scenario is a Brees/Rivers scenario where they turn out to both be awesome, or the presence of the 1st round rook takes his game to new levels.

Very obvious comparable scenario is current state of the 49ers.

Edit - see packers drafting Love even though they still have A Rodgers.

You know Fun that having 2 picks in the 1st round assures us all that the meltdown on draft day will be twice as crazy lol

Idiotic move at the time and in hindsight.

They've eaten up 3 of his 5-year rookie deal by the end of next year, which means they need to already address young QB in the 1st round again next year before they have to pick up the 5th year option.

Corral is the best. His offense at Ole Miss under Lebby and Freshwater had him going thru so many progressions from reading the box to multiple RPO progressions. Dude is polished mentally. I wouldn’t hate the Saints moving up in round 2 to get him if he’s there. Maybe even late 1st. But we need a Tackle and a WR.
