Thomas is out through Week 7. When he comes back, I expect him to get frustrated with double teams.

Kamara is good but what you going to do? Flex him out every single play?

Jamies needs the help. He needs receivers to go up and get the ball. The man slings it, he don’t aim it. He had Mike Evans, DeSean Jackson and Godwin. OJ Howard for all the good that did.

Payton’s approach of neglecting the position will kill the offense this year, regardless of QB play.

Theres neglect at CB and DT as well.

But tbf to your post, we havent had a really good #2 since Brandin Cooks. And thats still debatable.

Without Thomas, this is arguably the worst WR Corp on paper the Saints have ever had since I’ve been watching (1981). Definitely the the worst during the SP era.

Sadly, having the league’s worst WR unit also does not help Taymeis usher in a new Saints QB era. The timing is awful.

They refused to address the position in the draft this year. They had multiple opportunities and passed about every one up.

You can’t tell me there wasn’t a 4th round WR that could have helped this club instead of Ego Book. I mean Ian. Payton’s ego pick. One of these days he will find a QB through the draft. Taysom isn’t a long term starting QB. Jacob Harris and Cordell Powell would have been there.

Heck, they could have traded up in the 4th for that Amon Brown kid from USC, who I think will be a stud.

I’m not even addressing the missed opportunities in the 1-3. There will always be a whatabout in those prime rounds.

It’s all just so unnecessary.

We have been set at DT until this past year. Paying MT13 that contract is one of the most costly things possible to this team.

I agree, but we are fricked now. And we werent too shabby at CB last year. Even the depth of Prob and PJ were better than Jason David/Fred Thomas/etc.

Edit: to be fair, its easier to find diamonds in the rough at DT. Its mildly easy at WR to a degree. Its downright impossible at CB.

First of all they should've kept janoris.

It's been years since they invested at wide receiver.

I think our WRs are going to surprise us this year. They've basically been running routes in a box for the last couple years.

Callaway is legit

Harris is a burner

Trequan took a step forward last season

Add in Trautman/Kamara/Taysom and I think our offense will be fine.

It's our defense that's gonna suck

I want you to be right about the receivers but Callaway (Trautman too) is pretty unproven, Harris needs to stay healthy, and Trequon is probably not better then a no.3 WR. I don’t have much optimism

If this is what we’re going in to camp with, then God help us.

We’ll be holding foot race tryouts on Bourbon by week 5.

Saints trim 100 mil in player salary. It's a rebuild season. I say no playoffs this year.

Callaway needs to be able to stay healthy as well. Ankle & knee injuries limited his availability & development over his rookie season. Even still, Callaway flashed the type of possession receiver skills the offense is going to need with MT out.

Harris is the complete wild card/joker here. He's truly the only one of these three who has shown big play explosive ability with the ball being thrown in his direction. The offense needs Harris healthy & on the field, contributing every game.

Troutman & Callaway are similar as to where both showed flashes but were those flashes an indication of their true potential or just flashes altogether? If both stay healthy & build off the potential they showed last season then the passing game will be fine when even with MT out.

I'm cautiously optimistic. Anymore injuries at receiver & TE & this passing game is screwed. Training camp & the preseason are going to be crucial for both Troutman & Callaway. I'm hopeful that the next month or so can provide some further insight as to what the team has when it comes to both players.

We could live with par and sub par receivers in the past because of brees.
Now we’re in trouble.

Yep. We are about to see why WR has been a need for years. And will probably be our top need along with QB depending on Winston and Hill.

Without Thomas there is a better chance of Taysom starting. Gotta find yards somewhere.

This atrocious WR room is why Taysom will be the starter from day 1. We're going to line up, run a bunch of QB power and read option just like the Patriots did last season, and be a middling team.

Jameis is not a creator. Taysom is.

We survived over the years BECAUSE of QB play. The step down in QB play will illuminate the problem you are pointing out.

But, it's kind of strange that after benefitting from the advantage we had at QB, you are bitching about not yet having rebuilt the position when we haven't played a game without Brees.

Rebuilding takes some time. This year isn't going to be a good one.
