Our QB position is Payton's fault

No one else to blame but him. For years I said they should've drafted a qb in the earlier rounds or trade for one. Instead, they chose to kick the can down the road and sign noodle arm to a ridiculous one year contracts and hamstring our cap.

They would have drafted Mahomes.
I hope he never plays golf with those guys again.

Sorry. They chose to move Taysom and chose to resign Jameis.
The end.
The end.

Imagine what we could have done with the major cap space wasted on Taysom

Absolutely one of the worst decisions in recent franchise history was moving forward with Jameis Winston as our starting quarterback.
We knew that this guy was a turnover machine so everyone acting surprised that he's giving the ball away in crucial moments is really confusing.

Brees was done after 2018. Selfishly he took big pay days and Payton refused to run the ball more giving Brees declining arm strength.
In my opinion Peyton/Brees era brought a lot of wins, but lost when it mattered the most.
I believe we left about 4 -5 SB appearances on the table.

QBs Payton was interested in: Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Mac Jones, Tom Brady
QBs we got instead: Garret Grayson, Ian Book, Sean Canfield, regressed Drew Brees

We were one pick from Mahomes. Oh how nice that would have been.

But but he was gonna draft Patrick Mahomes lmao

During the Brees-Payton era, Id argue the Saints were the 2nd best team in the regular season behind the Brady-Belichek Patriots.
2019 loss to the Rams was a travesty, but aside from that these Brees-Payton era teams have to be considered the greatest playoff chokers in NFL history.

Sean's ego was the problem. He thought he was a quarterback guru. Brees fell in his lap. Brees wasn't a rookie who needed coaching, brees had a chip on his shoulder to show the chargers that they fricked up. It's easy to look at mahommes after playing in the NFL and saying " I was gonna draft him than is to look at the highest quarterback he drafted Garrett fricking grayson

Winston is a Heisman winning QB and first overall pick. AND YOU PEOPLE HATE HIM. An early drafted QB is no guarantee of anything.
How happy would you be if we drafted Josh Rosen, Sam Darnold, Jared Goff, DeShone Kizer, Dwayne Haskins, Christian Havkenberg, Marcus Mariota, Drew Lock or Jordan Love? Because that’s what you’re advocating here.

No. BS. 2006 we made the NFCCG with Brees. You telling me we are going to use our 2007 1st rd pick on a QB? Grayson and Book were fliers. Payton wanted Maholmes but KC jumped us. That's the only legit QB we had a chance at during Brees tenure because we're picking late, have tons of dead money etc.
We don't have a 1st rd pick until 2024.

Uhh, Lamar was the last pick in the first round and won an MVP….

The pack in that area choked way better than us.
In fact, they still choke to this day.

Nobody knew he'd win an MVP and he was the last player picked meaning 31 other teams didn't see him as worthy of a first rd pick.

Enough about Payton and noodle.

I'm as annoyed at last weekend's game as anyone, but do you guys realize that he played with four fractured vertebrae in his back?
Now, one can question that decision and it's an entirely different conversation. That's on coaching...should he have played?
In my opinion, if you have a QB that has fractured back bones, you probably should not play him. I think the Saints would be smart to start Andy Dalton at least against Carolina for two reasons: Carolina is very beatable and it allows Jameis to heal. I think Dalton can manage games and even win in small doses.

Was the correct move

Not looking like the correct move
Should have tried harder for Watson or Wilson
