Insane.
Draft Smith and change the goddamn formation if that’s what it takes. You pick talent.

We don’t have the other talent to change the defense for one player. This is the worst take I’ve seen over the smith melt.

Coach Dennis Allen beat the Eagles arse last year

If Carter has his head on straight, he will be good. I don't think that's a given for a guy that completely let himself go before the combine
If the saints drafted smith, he would be labeled injury prone

Both could end up being meh. Carter has red flags and Smith is an undersized position-less player. Sure the media and fans will suck off the Eagles bc they are "making bold moves" and "are the UGA defense of the NFL!!!!", but that's just noise.
Once again we traded with the Eagles last year bc we knew this crop of prospects was below-average and we were likely getting something back for Payton. Sure we didn't want to hand them a Top 10 pick, but it's not a big deal at the end of day.

Saints got Olave, Penning and Bresee. Eagles got Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter, and Nolan Smith. I’m not sure why everyone is gushing over the eagles like their picks are head and shoulders better.
Let’s see in a couple of seasons who came out on top. Olave was already a much better player than Davis their respective rookie years.

Exactly. Upside for both are huge, the same for the downside. There's a reason Smith fell people!

He has a position on their D. They use smaller DEs, especially on passing downs. They also do a major DL rotation so he'll never be expected to play the snaps a guy like Cam is.

Well they were also in the Super Bowl last year.

It's kind of a big deal
Carter + JSN (I'd assume we trade up for a WR) is a lot better than Olave and Bresee

Both those picks are risky, even though the analysts love them. Jalen Carter has huge character issues, would you be surprised if he's out of the league in a few years? Nolan Smith is not much bigger than a wide receiver, so of course he runs a 4.3. Can he really be an effective pass rusher in the NFL? That said, the Eagles have a great roster right now so why not swing for the fences.

The Eagles also get our 2nd rounder NEXT year
The 3rd we traded them also was used to get AJ Brown

Honestly I think they both will be busts.

Um, maybe? Olave almost won OROY. JSN is limited by his speed and size to playing the slot, and is injury prone. Will Jalen Carter have a better career than Bresee? Probably, but he also might flame out in a few seasons.

Carter will be out of the league before his rookie contract expires.

Until the injury JSN was regarded as the VASTLY superior prospect.

Whatever issues Carter has, Bresee has as well, without the upside. Carter in 2021 was seen as one of the most elite prospects for 2022. Up until the SECCG, he was seen that way. Bressee hasn't been seen as elite for 2 years

They also traded the 18th overall pick for AJ brown and were willing to give him a huge contract. The third rounder was a throw in. Disingenuous to try and count AJ Brown as part of the eagles haul.
The second rounder I’ll grant is part of the ledger. So throw in whoever they get with that pick. Still not as bad as some of you make it out to be.
I wouldn’t have done it, and we need to get smarter about how we value draft capital, but it’s not this historically bad trade. Especially if the saints were right on Olave, which it looks like they were.

Baw idk about this
In a vacuum, I don’t disagree but there are a lot of armed flags with Carter and JSN

Olave has to become a legit elite, WR1 next year, when all last year he screamed elite WR2.
His running after the catch and open field explosiveness after the catch have to improve bigly. There's a reason Wilson beat him out in the end when it seemed that Olave was a lock the first half of the year.

Smith had like 2 more sacks than Bresee in like 13 more games
