I agree with you if the Saints knew about the condition prior to the contract, but if not, it's just bad luck for everyone.

You really think this developed about in the 3 months since he signed his contract?

You can't be that dumb

If they didnt know about it, that isn't an excuse. Why didn't they do their due diligence?

I think it's more of the front office overlooking it because they had no choice. Fairley played really well and their depth after him was pitiful. They rolled the dice and, much like the majority of FA signings in the Loomis era, came up empty handed.

I believe they knew there was a redflag even right before they signed the contract, so they may have added some language that helps out the Saints $$ wise. Perhaps they added something that allows them to void it.

We drafted a 3T in the 1st round last year, so I'd say Fairley's replacement is already on the team.

right, and at this time last year I don't recall anyone getting all that fired up when we signed him on a 1 year prove it deal either.

I do think its odd that he logged a full 16 game effort for the first time in his whole career last year though. Then in that season set a career high with 6.5 sacks.

just unfortunate for him and the Saints that he won't have a chance to build on that this year.

Davison is a guy to watch. At times last year he seemed like he was improving.

this hurts though. The Saints need all the help they can get on D.

The only good to take out of any of this football wise is DT just so happens to be a position we were really deep at.

As long as Rankins is healthy we should be solid there although we had a chance to be great if Fairley was part of that interior rotation.

LT is unfortunate but we did just spend a 1st on a OT who might be able to play there while not altering the entire OL.

I would really love to be a bit more fortunate with the injury bug though.

Normally I'd chalk this up to just shite luck but after the report that said we flagged it again before signing this contract pisses me the frick off. I hope we gave ourself some type of out but I doubt it

This guy has been here since the shitty Haslett years and you think they're going to fire him now?

At this rate, Saints will sign Brees at the end of this season and he'll have a career ending injury playing catch with his kids.

Look around the league. That's two star players out before the pads came on. Find another example. Please find another team in 2017 who have lost two star players already. I'll wait

We weren't deep there but we had viable depth that could come in and give quality minutes.

However, they aren't meant to be starters, just rotational guys. Saints need to think long and hard about trading. The interior DL is crucial.

I don't have the article off hand. I google saints and pelicans every day just to keep up with the latest stuff. But I remember reading that this particular issue was first discovered before his rookie year.

Yeah it was. But the new issue he's dealing with now was spotted before the Saints signed him to this contract (why there should be some language that allows them to void it). Saints spotted the issue during his physical (which he still passed), and told him to go see a specialist. They signed him to the big deal before getting all the news back. So either the Saints were criminally irresponsible or there is some contract language that will soften the blow.

you would think a retirement would be an exception when it comes to the cap

Thats the thing though.. He is not retiring. The Saints are placing him on the list, not him. If they were heartless they could ask him to play anyway and if he refused then they could not pay him.

He hasn't yet. But he's still unavailable so it'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

It’s unclear if the Saints will argue that Fairley had some sort of undisclosed condition that could nullify the contract -- or if this will just be treated as though Fairley suffered a non-football injury after he signed his contract.

Under NFL rules, the Saints won’t be required to pay Fairley’s $1 million base salary this year. But both sides will likely file grievances over whether the Saints should get back some of the signing bonus money they have already paid him or whether Fairley is still owed more of his guarantees. They will either reach an injury settlement, or an arbitrator will decide.

They have to in order to save some money. Next year he will be gone if he cant play.

This falls squarely on the shoulders of the Front Office. You cant blame the medical staff.

I read where someone is friends with members of the medical staff. According to him, the medical staff didnt clear some players and the Saints cleared them anyway. What a frickin joke. Its not a wonder we cant win with an elite QB.
