NFL Refs make the games almost unwatchable

Each week its the same thing across the league. The refs make multiple nonsensical calls that directly put points on or take points off the board. Its less about being the better team and more about hoping to be the beneficiary of ridiculous flags.

The saints played awful yesterday and I wish I could point to that and say "Hey, we were just beaten by a better team." but the amount of awful calls that went against the saints to extend Brady drives put points on the board for Tampa and put the Saints in chasing mode.

If a penalty isn't clear and obvious, the refs need to swallow their damn whistle.

I feel like I can't get emotionally invested in Saints games like I do LSU because at some point the refs will change the course of the entire game based on nothing.

This happens in college football too. A zebra doesn't change its stripes.

Sometimes. But It happens in multiple games every week in the NFL.

I watch plenty of college football and rarely do I think "The refs decided this game." I'd say 50% of the NFL games are heavily influenced by crazy calls out of nowhere.

Agree 100%, Sundays used to be something I looked forward to. The "no-call" and wokeness has taken the fun out of it for me.

So Im raking the yard with the game on the patio TV, sit down to watch and like clockwork, shitty calls keep the Bucs drive alive, not to mention the absolute joke of ejecting Lattimore.....

Just reaffirmed my break-up with the NFL.

The crew yesterday had a reputation as being flag happy. I think that last year Shaun Hochuli's crew gave out the second most penalties.

The targeting foul on Maye and the holding calls were laughable. If anything, Fournette should have gotten that call.

These guys are still football players? Right?

The reason I had stopped watching the NFL. After yesterday's game, I'm probably going back to not watching. Not wasting 4 hours on my Sunday. Yesterday was one of the worse officiating jobs I have ever seen.

I know the NFL won't do shite to change this, but they need to take the subjectivity out of the personal fouls, or at a minimum, have a booth reviewer.

It’s just a deadly triumvirate of factors that are killing the enjoyment of the game:

First, flag-happy referees who can’t stop inserting themselves into the circus. I once remember a time when the referees were largely anonymous. Now, we know who is reffing the game by mid-week and analyzing the type and frequency of flags they throw. This should not be a factor, but it is. Here we are. Thanks, NFL.

Second, the rules have gotten so restrictive on making contact with receivers and … just making contact period… that the refs are forced into boneheaded interpretations where their boneheadedness is put on full display.

Third, this is an old problem, but it’s like every player cheats on every single play. There’s holding on every play. PI on every pass. Blocks in the back on every return. Just STOP IT. STOP. IT. You are killing football.

Sad that it seems to have gotten worse once the NFL got in bed with gaming companies.

They should definitely have a booth review. Two PF calls yesterday were blatantly wrong and affected the outcome of the game. No way a 60+ year old from 40 yards away can call an unnecessary roughness call with any accuracy.

I agree, but if we're being fair here, it went both ways yesterday. There were some pretty terrible calls in favor of the Saints as well.

It’s just incompetence and unaccountability.

The worst part is the ejections came from New York. They watched the same video we all saw in which Lattimore never touched anyone that didn’t hit him first and they still ejected him. What were they looking at? There’s 2 possibilities there. Incompetence or corruption.

NFL is rigged. It’s business and it’s not a fair system. It’s a rigged system.

That's why the officials are untouchable. The league uses them to manipulate the outcomes for ratings. It's a fact. Money talks.

I agree. Refs are supposed to be invisible. Too many calls are up to the interpretation of that crew.

Get rid of the spot foul PI penalty, and clock run off penalties.

By design. Each crew is given "Points of emphasis" by the competition committee for each game. This is how in game manipulation works.

The game is entertainment and subjective decisions are supposed to add to the excitement while maximizing profits for the owners.

The refs definitely swung the Saints / Bucs game and also the Steelers / Browns game tonight.
