It’s officially the first gameday of the season folks! I want to see what y’all are most excited to see against the Jags.

For me:

1. Tight end position battle

We’ve seen what Brees can do with even just an above average tight end. He makes them special.

I’m assuming Watson is pretty much a lock here but can we say the same about Hill or Hooman? Maybe, but I would love to see one of either Dan Arnold or Deon Yelder step up and take one of the tight end spots by the balls. Arnold has gotten a lot of attention so far with his receiving skills so I’m hoping he can put that on display in a game.

2. Backup RB

We’ve got Scott, West, Vereen, and Williams fighting for likely two spots behind our studs. Scott is the guy I’m most excited about. When we drafted him my first thought was that he seemed like a guy that SP had a specific vision for. He just seems tailor-made for our offense. I wanna see him work in space with some screens and toss plays.

3. Defensive tackle

We’ve got our 3 locks (IMO) of Onyemata, Rankins, and Davison. DT is a position where depth is crucial to keep the big guys fresh so it would be nice to have someone start to separate themselves for that 4th spot. I’ve heard Loewen and Bromley’s names come up a lot so I’ll be looking for them. George Johnson is a guy to keep an eye on as well. I remember him playing well for us at the end of last year.

Honorable mention: WR
Dear football Jesus please give me a Tre’quan Smith bomb over A.J. Bouye on the opening play thank you god bless.

TL;DR
Saints goin’ to the ship

OL play against a stout Jag defense.

If our OL is good, we will go far.

Nice flow with the first team offense quickly retiring to the sideline. An energetic, nasty defense that causes turnovers. Consistent special teams play with no turnovers.

Wasn’t your OL trash last year in Preseason then suddenly good right away after the season started? I remember many wanted Peat gone.

the Saints started 0-2 last year in the regular season.

the Saints had gone 7-9 the previous three regular seasons.

but let me guess, you knew the Saints were about to win eight games in a row after a 0-2 start in the 2017 season.

1. PRob--At some point we're likely to lose Lattimore or Crawley for a while. It's just the nature of the game. Did Robinson actually improve while he was gone or is he gonna pick up right where he left off?

2. Which LB is gonna be best in coverage? Supposedly Anzalone is the most athletically gifted. Can he fill that role.

3. Sean's commitment to the run--Is it still there? Hard to bet on this in the preseason without game planning, however, in '09 it was pretty obvious in preseason that Sean was gonna ride the run game harder than before.

He was used as a slot CB last season and was elite at that role with the Eagles supporting cast and scheme.

If we lose either Lattimore or Crawley...I would imagine Williams would probably be bumped to outside CB. If we lost both frick me sideways.

And he played outside when necessary as well.

It may become necessary. The defensive backfield got torched without Lattimore vs Rams and Redskins. Cammie Cam was the only QB Crawley & Co. was able to hold under 300 yds.

It's a real thing. Don't dismiss it.

I'm interested to see if PJ Williams does well. He technically missed his first 2 years so last year was kinda a rookie year for him. He missed pretty much all his rookie training camp and went on IR either first or 2nd game his 2nd year. I'd like to see if he makes another step, having 4 strong CBs would be incredible with our injury history at that position.

This. Honestly I'd settle for 3 CBs. We cannot have Harris see the field.

Jimmy Graham, Ben Watson, an aging Jeremy Shockey. Is that a serious question?
