Missing out on the chance to get him is extremely painful.

Hindsight is great but the timing just wasn't right.

Andy knew what Mahomes would become, he saw the potential so did Payton, but fat Andy got to him first. The same thing happened to the Saints in this past draft I believe when a team traded up to jump in front of them to nab awesome Oklahoma LB'er Murray who this defense could use right now playing alonside Demario Davis.

If he isn’t on your team it’s better to be drafting after the Chiefs than living with the reality of passing on him.

1 pick away. Cheifs made the smartest draft move in years.

could be the greatest draft move ever considering that Mahommes looks to be the most physically gifted QB ever.

What makes you think the Saints would have taken him?

Agreed it is definitely something we could regret for years to come. But it would've been even more painful if we had had the chance to draft him and didn't. As far as we know it was no guarantee that we would've drafted him.

Hmmm.....

Golfer Ryan Palmer: Saints wanted Patrick Mahomes

quote:

The reason Andy Reid and John Dorsey needed to give up two first-round picks and a third-rounder to secure Mahomes is that they believed another team was eyeing the quarterback.

The speculation during the draft was that the New Orleans Saints targeted the big-armed Texas Tech product at No. 11 to be their heir to Drew Brees.

That speculation was confirmed from an odd source on Friday.

Golfer Ryan Palmer was in the Saints' war room on Thursday night, along with fellow golfer Jordan Spieth. Palmer told reporters on Friday the Saints were "really big into Mahomes."

Ryan Palmer interview post draft

quote:

Saints head coach Sean Payton has acknowledged that the situation easily could have been reversed: If the Chiefs, who moved up to No. 10 overall, had drafted Marshon Lattimore, then the Saints would have drafted Mahomes at No. 11. And in an in-depth look at the Chiefs’ draft plans a year ago, Terez Paylor of Yahoo writes that the Chiefs were always targeting the 10th overall pick because they thought the Saints wanted Mahomes.

Not only that, but giving up future 1st round picks (and a couple other picks, don't recall exactly) to move up ONE spot from 3 to 2 for Trubisky. And I forget who was at 2 originally, but they weren't expected to take a QB. Has to be a top 10 all-time draft blunder. Even at the time it was huge head scratcher when they more than likely could've stayed put and got him anyway.

If we did draft him, how many years does Payton wait to play him? My guess is Brees retires after 2018.

The frick? The timing was perfect. He could have stayed under Brees a couple years then taken over and we'd be wrecking shite.

He would do what Brady is doing in Tampa.

Reid gave up a 3rd & 1st to move one pick ahead of us to get him. What a bargain!

Lol

Trubisky went #2 overall before Mahommes

Pretty sure bears traded up to get him as well

It was SF who was at #2 and they were always taking Soloman Thomas, the DE out of Stanford. Virtually everyone knew SF wasn't taking Trubisky (or any QB) at 2 because they'd just traded for Garoppolo the year prior so CHI absolutely would've still gotten Trubisky at 3.

An all-time boneheaded move
