He likely was in line to get $10M for at least 5 years (maybe 7 years given the cap reality). Ben Johnson got $13M from the Bears so this is not outlandish.

How fricking bad is the Saints job for Brady to punt on over $8M this year? If this doesn’t wake Gayle up to act or sell I’m not sure anything will.

This is drafting a punter Russel Erxleben bad.

Set for life, but you have to be tarnished with the stench of the Saints and probably never be a coach again. I guess he is waiting for a real opportunity.

No decent coach will come here with the salary cap mess Loomis has created. We can't rebuild the team or get a decent coach because of it.

Best course of action is to tank several seasons and draft our way out. Get the worst coach out there and just lose. I thought that was the plan with Dennis Allen, because he certainly was the worst coach they could get, but the bastard wouldn't lose enough. I guess he just didn't know his role was to lose them all.

Brady is currently concentrating on getting the Bills to the Superbowl. The Saints 2nd interview nonsense is a distraction and he put it to rest. He’ll make HC money in the future.

The Lions did not fair too well with all the HC distraction speculation.

The Bills win the Superbowl and Brady makes a lot of money with more command and control of an organization.

My friend made a decent point. Hire someone who could stabilize the organization (like Pete Carroll *i know he has signed but it’s an example* or even McCarthy)….give them a 6 year deal and tell them that it’s really a 4 year deal since the first two they (the organization) would be trying to fix the cap situation so signing big free agents or trying to keep expensive players on the team would difficult if not impossible. Get the cap under control and weed out the older players. That would likely also result in two years of high draft picks.

He’s in his mid-late 30s and coaches Josh Allen. He’s betting on himself and his situation to get the Ben Johnson treatment as early as next year. Barring an Allen injury it’s a fairly likely outcome. He will then get far better opportunities than us.

This franchise and fanbase will not tolerate “several seasons” of tanking.
You’d start seeing the paper bags again. That’s reality.

You do realize he can continue interviewing and get an offer after the Super Bowl? It doesn’t have to be about the Saints specifically…just delaying to focus on team, or wanting to get on himself for another year, or deciding he doesn’t want to be a head coach are all also possibilities

Tanking is a stupid term. I do think the vast majority of more knowledgeable fans would be ok if we didn’t spend anything big on free agency for the next few years, minimized all of our hits and got our cap as clean as possible, and only acquired talent through the draft.

Sure you can take some fliers on young coach able players for depth but the organization needs a bath in the worst way.

That’s not “tanking” in the nba sense but it is allowing for a roster overhaul and a more attractive situation than continuing to piecemeal free agents into this old arse roster and be up against it every single year.

Honestly if the organization said that but framed it positively “we need to get younger to take the next step” it would at least buy you a bit of grace with a good bit of fans instead of continuing to flounder around deluding the fans that we’re close.

Hell we don’t even really have a franchise player for fans to be excited about besides Kamara who is now past his prime.

Any coach sure of himself will like a challenge and take it on.

Joe Brady just doesn’t have the stones.

Brady is waiting for a job with:
1. An established QB.
or
2. A high draft pick in a year with a generational talent.

He isn't going to a Saints team in Cap Hell to have to reset four years down the line.

I don't know how people can't understand this. The Saints job for the next three years is a shite job and whoever the next head coach is, they will just end up fired. I'm glad Brady did the smart thing for himself and waited for a better opportunity next year.
