actually kind of surprised that Ireland said he checks mocks

I think it'd be close minded not to. That's an easy resource to gauge what your team is seeing vs the pundits. If the pundits are raving about a certain player it would probably make you take a second look at them, and vice versa. Not saying you need to agree with them at all, but it can give you perspective.

Yeah, we don’t like Dwight Freeney types. We’re much more in to 1.5 sack Marcus

Yea we don’t want to draft a HOF caliber de. We want guys that totally disappeared in the playoffs the last two years and offered hardly any pass rush. That statement by Ireland makes no sense....

I think that is fair and probably a smart way to run a defensive front. Everyone wants that DE that can take over the game with his pass rush, but you want guys that can dominate the LOS every down and earn that 3rd and long QB feast. So if you can take the OT and push him into the pocket, get into run/throwing lanes, it affects the offense in the pass and run. Then you pull out your best moves to get to the QB as a pass rusher.

This is great and all and I totally agree with the premise. But we should also be looking for that one dimensional elite pass rusher that can come in on obvious 3rd down passing downs and cause havoc more consistently.

I think Hendrickson was pretty good in that role when he didn’t have to start. But it has cost us in the playoff games the last 4 years or so. Hendrickson was great last year until he got injured at the end of the year and you could tell he wasn’t the same in the playoffs and it cost us.

Clearly not what he meant. But keep intentionally being obtuse.

don't really love his answer about pete werner. i mean, the first thing you rave about a 2nd rd pick at a dire position is special teams? then blah blah versatility blah blah blah.

He started with special teams since that was the first thing werner did.
He went through his career at ohio state. That's just how personnel people think.

They look at everything. It shows a persons makeup. I love that he can play 3 or 4 positions. Wasnt a WOW pick but it was a very solid pick.

All he said was freeney was a different type of end.

Freeney was 6’, ran a 4.4 and had a 37” vertical. Strong too. “Bend the edge, get behind the QB” is just talking about his rush style. Quick, get upfield in a hurry, hit that spin or cut back to get to the QB

We obviously have big ends with totally different games

Exactly who I compared him to. Sounds like a clone.

Most interesting tidbit IMO

Payton Turner = Cameron Jordan
Pete Werner = Scott Fujita
Paulson Adebo = Tracy Porter
Ian Book = Tony Romo
Landon Young = Zach Strief
Kawaan Baker = Robert Meachem

okay, we got this shite on lock.

What did you see that you liked in Pete Werner?

Ireland: He’s everything you’re looking for in a draft pick. He checked all the boxes. He was a badass special teams player as a freshman. I mean really good. He’s going to play all four core special teams. He’s prototype (size). He started three years. He’s played multiple positions. You see him play mike linebacker in the sub (defense). You see him play will. He’s played sam. He’s blitzed. He’s covered. He’s covered man-to-man. He’s even played safety when they needed an extra player. Even as a linebacker, he’s played half-field safety. I mean you can tell they trust him to do whatever they ask him to do. … I like Ohio State players. I mean I think they’ve gone through a process of being prepared for big football games.

I might be crazy but this makes me feel like this dude isn’t ever gonna be a starter for us at LB
