It’s amazing that Pete Carmichael gets zero HC buzz every year

We all know Sean Payton runs the offense, but both he and Drew have gone on record about how valuable Pete is to the operation.

And we’ve seen OC’s from offensive minded HCs get plenty of jobs. Joe Philbin, Matt Nagy, Frank Reich, etc. It’s not uncommon at all. And he’s not old, he’s only 50.

Just kinda strange. But the longer he stays, the better I suppose.

Pete

Pretty much sums it up. Until Payton puts down the call sheet and gives him full control, Carmichael won't get the attention he deserves.

i thought he'd have a chance after the 2012 season when the Saints were putting up with Goodell's bullshite.

in that season the Saints offense was still one of the best in the league....

3rd in most points scored
2nd in total offensive yardage
1st passing yards

but here he still is with the Saints

Maybe he doesn't want to be a head coach and that's known in league circles.

He's has raised his family while here, had/has a very stable position, makes good money, all of which is a big deal in coaching.

If he got lasik and grew a beard, he would have a better chance. He is about as far away from looking like a football coach as you can get. He looks like your Dad's accountant

Perhaps he knows he is a coordinator not HC material and the FO's know this.

Pete doesn't seem to have the personality type for a NFL head coach. He's had interviews throughout the years but gets passed over.

Joe Brady said it too before the 2019 season. He said Pete is a genius.

It certainly is. Pete must really rub some folks the wrong way.

This.

He's smart and a good playcaller. He has called games for the Saints before. He's not an alpha that commands the room, though. He also seems pretty content where he is with the Saints. There is something to be said for a guy who understands his role and knows his limitations.

Pete is in the perfect role for him.

Not only does he not call plays, but the dude has voice spasms or something that makes him always sound nervous. He simply may not come across as confident in interviews.

Plus, there was the one year when Payton was forced out by Goodell that he had to call plays and went 7-9... with a HOFer at QB. Not a good resume' to sell to a desperate new fanbase. I think he called some COVID games, too, so at best, he broke even. That'll sell seats.

He also called that one game where we put up 62 on MNF against the Colts.

I thought it’s been stated multiple times that he’s just not interested in being a HC and he’s made that known several times which is why his name isn’t even brought up anymore

Carmichael is in the same boat as Bieniemy. Everyone knows the offense ain’t because of them.
