Doubt a single team gives a 1st with one year remaining.
His remaining contracted years are absolutely irrelevant to compensation. A team, say Denver, isn't bidding against the remainder of his contract, they are bidding against other teams that want him now. If they agree to compensation and make a trade then Denver or other interested teams missed out, regardless of his existing contract

There are not enough good coaches to be able to say "hey we'll just go to the next guy"
And these teams that want to wait a year are really willing to hire a interim or just throw away a season?
It all just sounds illogical.
I cant imagine being Denver and having the year they just had and say "eh, he wants too much power" lolz. Ok, go hire another hackett then.

These a-hole GMs have to know that if they pass up on CSP they will be held fully responsible by their fanbase if their other hire flops

Call his bluff.
I'd come out and leak that next year, Saints will expect 2 1sts, 2 2nds, and 2 3rds.
Some guys are saying there is a question about rights going forward since he retired and whether they end after next season or if they are technically ongoing if he returns to coaching so that he can't simply sit out. That doesn't seem right to me but the Saints' threat is that they will tie it up in court if one of the teams is trying to strong-arm the Saints or to Payton if he is the one doing it.
Play hardball. Worst case you don't get a late first-round pick. I think the Saints have the power vs any team that wants Payton this year.

Correct. But that is this year. If you say that he can skip coaching this year, go to his last remaining year under contract with the Saints and the Saints receive as much or more than was considered in 2023 I disagree.

Or maybe he is bombing in the interview meetings with his demands and arrogance???

No interest in the plum Indy job?
Maybe waiting for Bezos to hire him for the Commies.

Teams aren’t wanting to give SP the control he wants.

was discussed but nobody knows for sure. Could come down to language in the contract?
It's for sure done after 2024

Man I hope this is the case.. I don’t want draft picks, I’d rather keep Payton. Dennis Allen showed me you still need a good coach no matter how good your players are

Let him sit in the studio for the remainder of his Saints contract. He will literally be able to watch himself become more and more irrelevant the longer he does that. Either we get what we want or don’t accept anything. We hold all the power.

I'd rather Christmas be every day.
Not going to happen. Its like the Will Wade folks on the Rant. They won't let it go that he is gone. Bye. Not coming back like CSP.

I think Payton wants the Chargers or Dallas job…good chance one will be open next year. Why would you saddle yourself with Russell Wilson and no draft picks?

I said this a few days ago. Also would be a screw job by Payton to not get us some kind of compensation for him.

Excellent post - I agree on all points.
I won’t hide from it if proven wrong. But I have consistently said for 10+ years NO F’ING way Sean goes to the Cowboys.
He had almost total control in NOLA & wants something close to that.

Has anyone on this thread mentioned that Sean is bad on TV?
Not being petty when I say I think he’s bad. Drew is bad on TV too.
No one is saying FOX might not want him back. He doesn’t have a good voice & brings nothing unique to the table.
