I'm concerned about the LB position

I'm very concerned about the LB position. Never been a fan of Werner & I feel like he could've been easily upgraded a couple years ago. Ellis could be a better than average player for us but I wish we could pull off a trade at that position. Stutsman is still unknown.

Don't be.

Stutsman already started taking snaps from Werner last year. We’ll be fine.

Elliss aint the same guy that left for the Falcons.

Studsman had a hell of a first year forcing his way into the line up. Toward the end of the year he was taking the bulk of Werners snaps.
I think the fact that the staff didn't address LBer in the draft when several good ones were on the board shows they don't share that concern.
Yep Davis will be a big loss, but no one was going to fill that hole in the draft or FA that was not named Demario Davis.

There are still a few free agents out there that I think we should be bringing in for a visit to kick the tires on. Devin White, Kenneth Murray, Bobby Okereke
Maybe we can pull off a player for player trade like we did with Jacksonville swapping Khalen Saunders for Luke Fortner last season.
Alvin Kamara might be a potential after signing Travis Etienne and having Kendre Miller, Devin Neal & Audrick Estime all returning. Would just have be to be appropriate value in return.
Caesar Ruiz might be a potential after signing David Edwards and drafting Jeremiah Wright. We also re-signed Dillon Radunz and have Torricelli Simpkins returning.
WR will likely have some tough cuts as well. Think we usually keep 6?
1) Chris Olave 2) Jordyn Tyson 3) DeVaughn Vele 4) Bryce Lance
So it'll be tough battle for the last two spots between
-Ja'Lynn Polk: 2024 2nd rd pick by Patriots that we made a late draft pick swap trade for last season.
-Jerrod "Bub" Means: 2024 5th rd pick has shown some flashes but struggling to stay healthy
-Barion Brown: 6th rd rookie with great speed & yac ability, should also be a factor in return game
-Trey Palmer: 2023 6th rd pick by Tampa Bay that showed some flashes that we claimed off waivers last season
-Damien Alford: Signed from CFL, absolute monster at 6'6" 225 that high points the ball and makes contested catches, albeit against lesser competition.
I think these for sure will be the odd guys out unless they are the camp beasts
-Mason Tipton: 2024 undrafted rookie, flashed a little in camps but has yet to stand out in game. Return game also has been underwhelming.
-Ronnie Bell: 2023 7th rd pick by 49ers, showed a few flashes but seems like a low ceiling player
-Kevin Austin Jr: 2022 undrafted rookie. Had chances after injuries but couldn't fully capitalize

My main concern is pass coverage. Davis was so good physically but also instinctually and through preparedness. Hopefully Isaiah Stallbird can step up in the 3rd and obvious passing downs.

Sonny Styles? Devin Lloyd?

Atleast we tried.

You guys do realize that every nfl team has a hole somewhere, right?
Posted on 4/29/26 at 11:06 am to NIH
We have 3 guys that can be starters for 2 spots. I don't even see a hole. We also have 2 guys behind them we feel good about as depth in Ford and Stalbird.
If anything (starter quality debate aside), it's one of our deepest positions.
Now if you say you want to upgrade from Werner, I think we already started doing that last year by having Stutsman get more snaps as the season went on.
And if anyone is down on Ellis I can't agree with that. He will be great. He isn't DD, but there aren't many LBs on THAT level in the league.

I don't get it either. This keeps popping up. Staley has had Stalbird and Ford for a year now and has kept them. If he didn't like them they would have been replaced by now. Stalbird is a sub 4.4 guy and Bird a Texas starter good vs the run but needed to improve his cover skills.
Next year I bet Staley gets his DE and new CB for Christmas!

Do you think that Staley has the authority to cut players ?

Don’t be. We’re in a rebuild that is taking several seasons. We will get there

Why is everyone forgetting that we signed Jennings?

You should. It’s impossible to replace Demario

is Anfernee Jennings an edge or a LB? He might be a good 4th LB

This.
We got a great DT and have beaucoup defensive ends to compete for a spot on this team. That’s the start of the defensive rebuild.
As for the draft, we fixed one player on the OL and have drafted and signed some great weapons.
Next year we can finalize the OL rebuild and continue to build out the defense. We will miss Demario for sure, but it was a smart move to not resign him to a long term contract. He will be hard to replace, but next year is the year to get a pass rusher and CB.

The Saints are trying to win this year. They will compete for a playoff spot and not get a super high draft pick like the last draft. The rebuild is over. Let's start thinking like a playoff contender.
