Three reasons mostly.
The front office screwed up the entire off-season last year. Resigning Winston to a multi year deal coming off a major injury was yet another shite feather in their cap. We have to pay him or cut him and have 10+ million go against our cap one way or the other. Not a good scenario for a team probably in the worst shape cap wise in the entire league.

2nd, Winston will be a great tank commander to get us Maye or Williams. They are both better than any qb that has come out the last couple drafts. The goal should be to get one of them.

3rd, It would get rid of Allen. I mean what else do you have to do to get fired? 5 losing records in 5 years of coaching, half a decade of being a loser. He’s a good asst but definitely not head coach material.

Only two things matter now:

Get a new coach

Get a franchise QB

After the way Allen did Jameis dirty, there is a 0% chance he’ll be on the team next year

Did him dirty? He looked like absolute dog shite outside one quarter when Atl played prevent defense. Offense was discombobulated and out of sync all of his games except when he ran the 2 minute offense that entire 4th quarter. He’s not getting a starting job anywhere else.

To be fair Dalton has outplayed Winston 100 times over. Our offense just sucks, Landry and Thomas being dogshit along with Kamara looking like he’s half assing it 75% of the time don’t help Dalton or Winston either.

Winston will be along with a big cap hit. Allen is not going anywhere unfortunately.

Winston plus DA is a one way ticket to the top 5 in the draft two off-seasons from now. If we’re stuck with DA anyway, we might as well.

Our cap situation says otherwise. Saints should not spend any more money on QBs next season, ride out 2023 with what you have at QB and make a move next offseason/or draft a new QB.

All of this. I think where Pete Carmichael lacks most compared to Payton is creating mismatches, which makes our offense look stale. I think Dalton did what he could with what he had to work with, including subpar play from the supporting cast (Kamara and Landry) and playcalling. To me Dalton is a high level game manager which is more than I can say for Winston, which can be a boom or bust quarterback with not enough consistent boom.

It really brings a tear to my eye remembering how revered Jameis Winston was on this board just 5 months ago and how many of you have woken up to how terrible Jameis is and has been for his entire career.

Taysom Hill is 17th all time in Saints history in both Passing and Rushing at this time.

Lol. I’ve been woke. I’m not sure how many threads I made saying we needed to go all in on Watson. Way before his stuff got settled and we showed interest and the rest of the board jumped on that bandwagon.

Once he was off the table, we should have got our cap under control and went super cheap at qb. Whoever wants to start and showcase his skills on a one year prove it deal.

Instead we sign Winston to an extension and sign a bunch of over the hill vets that are washed and go deeper into cap hell. And now here we are.
