I blame the head offical Vinovich more than the rest. He is the guy in charge.

As the referee, he could have made the call or called for a conference.
Vinovich, who lied to the media after the game about seeing the play when camera angles showed him staring right at it, might have been loathe to make the call because of the Ram's fans very public desire to not have him call the game. Did he not confer with the officials near the play or throw a flag himself because he did not want to make the call that would have the Rams losing 9 in a row with him as head official?

Really? I blame the two motherfrickers that were 8 feet away

It actually annoys me how much he’s been able to escape criticism. That’s his crew, he’s responsible. The fact they didn’t have a discussion about that call is unbelievable.

Sean should have taken the flag out of the refs belt beside him and thrown it.

Yep. He’s a lying pos. You want a high profile nfl job? Then do your job or accept consequences of colluding with nfl like the bitch coward he is. He is the one who didn’t call holdings all game. He could have made a bunch of calls right. Hope his CPA business is burned to the ground by illegals. F him. Sorry pos. Maybe he will go bankrupt.

I blame them as well but Vinovich is the guy in charge. He saw the play and should have called them over. I think the back judge bizarrely claiming the ball was tipped got the line judge to not make the call. If Vinovich had done his damn job after seeing the OBVIOUS PI and called for a conference the flag could still have been thrown.

It is my understanding that each game is viewed in the NY office as games are played. The bed guy said, “I did not see the play”! There is only ONE game being played that Sunday at that time! What was he watching?
The back judge, 10 feet from the play says,” I thought the ball was tipped”. He was looking at the QB & not the downfield action. His title & task is BACK judge.
Give me a break.

He said he didn’t see the play. Wtf was he watching? He was on the got damn field! Of course he saw the play.

I blame them all. He set the tone early on that they weren't going to call penalties.

It’s not his call. He is supposed to be watching for roughing the QB after the balls released.

Every call is his call. He can overrule any call or make any call himself. He should have at least jogged his arse down to the other officials and simply a quick "Why no flag?". If the back judge said what I think happened, that he saw it as tipped, they could have thrown the flag.

Honestly, the one ref being super adamant about the other swallowing his whistle is a really bad look. That guy did not want the PI or helmet to helmet called. usually, if there is doubt, they'll confer. I've never seen a ref be that adamant about swallowing a whistle. You can't look at that objectively and tell me something wasnt up.
Such horseshite.

That is simply not true and goes against officiating mechanics at every level, starting at youth football on up.
The responsibility for that call is on the two officials in the area. There is absolutely no way the head ref, 20 yards or more away from the play, can make that call, or should make that call.
Now, should the head ref, if he did see something, have communicated with the two officials at the spot? Yes, although they can do that over their wireless communication system and not necessarily need a conference.
If one official near the spot saw interference but thought the ball might have been tipped, the proper mechanics is to throw the flag, and then discuss with the umpire (who has responsibility for calling tipped passes near the LOS). If the umpire says the ball was indeed tipped, then the flag is waived off.
Also, keep in mind this is not Vinovich's normal crew, it's these stupid all-star crews.

Wonder how much the refs/family had bet on the game?

each of the 7 officials is responsible for an "area" of the field
head referee Bill Vinovich's "area" is the offensive backfield and offensive side of the LOS
I don't doubt he looked over the way the ball headed after all the action in his area ceased after Drew threw the ball... but I also don't doubt he didn't catch the main action of the play (in fact I dare say he didn't look until after NRC made contact with TLL)
That area of the field belongs to Cavaletto & Turner... and to a much lesser degree the back judge Todd Prukop... they deserve the main angst
when you see Turner tell Cavaletto "bang bang"... that means they both agreed ball & defender arrived at the same time in their eyes... Vinovich was not going to make that call and overturn the 2 officials that were both less than 10 feet away from the main action
if a 3rd official was going to come in and overturn the 2 of them... it was going to be the back judge Todd Prukop... he's the 1 who would've been able to tell the other 2 "the ball was definitely still on its way to being caught and it was not a bang bang play"
