How would’ve Brees been assessed on this board prior to 2006??

Not saying Carr is Brees by no means. Just curious how much hate would’ve been on here? Plenty if I had to guess.

We weren't spoiled by Brees then.

When he signed here, his resume was already greater than any QB that had ever played for us - including Archie.

Which means 75% of this board would have shite on it because we signed a bum coming off of major shoulder surgery.

That was my concern since he was coming off of major shoulder surgery and was not a guarantee by any stretch.

Never been so happy to be so wrong

I remember being somewhat disappointed that we signed a game manager when there were going to be two guys at number 2 that looked like future stars(Leinart/Young).

I was kind of washed out on the Saints for that offseason with Katrina year and my perception that Benson acted like a bitch through it. That is to say I was too depressed about the Saints to dare to hope or have an opinion. Of course I was back in the dome for the opener.

But yeah, I think the person saying that we weren't spoiled by Brees is pretty spot on.

For the most part I was looking forward to seeing how much better he could be once he recovered from the shoulder injury.

I knew it was a severe injury, so I guess that is the only reason i was nervous about it.

fwiw, I don't hate Carr.

I'm just not feeling good in general about the Saints right now. I sure hope they prove me wrong but just not optimistic at this point with whatever plan they have. Still too early to tell what that is to be fair.

I remember this board and Brees was an injured Trent Dilfer and we were passing on Pat Mahomes and Lamar Jackson

It’s a good comparison. I always kind of looked at carr as a guy who could make a huge leap leaving the raiders and getting into a Payton/Saints system.

Well payton is gone and carr is now in his 30s.

But screw or we’re going nowhere with Dalton so I say roll the dice.

Brees had just led the Chargers to a 14-2 record in ‘04 and had a good year in ‘05. He was a game manager in his first five years because Marty Schottenheimer was his coach. But you could see he was becoming a very good QB. We were all stunned they signed him and beat out Miami for him but worried about the rest of the roster.

Derek Carr has a much larger sample size and, much like Archie, you can’t just blame all of the team’s struggles in a 9-year career on everyone else but him.

Completely and sadly honest to admit, before we signed him I was hoping they would draft lienart. Didn't really keep up much with college football outside of LSU just USC were always on the highlights.

I was wrong on many levels lmao

As someone who remembers the forums from those days, the opinions were mixed between those who felt like we paid top dollar for a guy with a shredded throwing shoulder and those who were astounded a Pro Bowl QB was to be had in free agency.

But I'd say it was more excitement than not
