They totally missed on what was really going on with Payton. Jeff Duncan was such a sycophant he wrote the article that he was staying the day before the "retirement".

I am not sure any city has sports media that more bow and defer to their team and ownership.

They suck, but so does the entire nola.com/advocate staff

New Orleans at least has some likable people like Luke Johnson and Kat Terrell. The LSU beat is just trash.

Jeff Duncan is the worst though, you’re right. He sucks.

Its always been that way.

And is common in small markets.

Most Saints fans take the side of the team and jump all over the local media types who are critical of the team.

The obvious is Payton and wife are wanting glitz and glamour from another organization with more NFL pull and brighter city lights.

The real question is why Payton and Gayle's relationship wasn't strong enough to overcome this when it may have been with Tom Benson.

You’re right about how pitiful it was that not a single NOLA/NFL/Sports Reporter had a whiff of what the Dolphins, Payton, Brady & Their Agent was scheming up!

Payton also has a history with a lot of the local "talent" where he intentionally feeds the bad information through sources or completely locks them out

because gayle was not about to stand up to goodell about anything

tom would never have let it go with the no call and he sure wouldnt put up with LaToya's BS mask mandate dome restrictions and he sure as hell would have put an end to the clear and obvious rigging of games against the saints

as for the reporting, it was well known what a bitch payton was about questions he didnt like and things he didnt want talked about so he got the saban treatment to decide everything about what they reported
payton watched all that and said frick it, im outta here for an owner that cares and demands fair treatment and fights for his team

Literally craeting fan fiction in his head lol.

What, exactly, was ownership supposed to do about the no call? Threaten to pull out of the NFL?

What do you want them to say?

The national media has covered it thoroughly

They can write an opinion piece but I would rather them stick to training camp coverage, stuff we can't get from big outlets

They ought to tell the lad that his job responsibilities have been changed to Laundry duty.

Specifically cleaning undergarments.

Because Gayle isn’t a business person and there are better owners out there.
