It's so arbitrary. If Taysom doesn't blow the Atlanta game we are likely in the divisional round of the playoffs giving DET a scare

It’s not arbitrary

We suck. We are not relevant. We won’t be relevant for the foreseeable future. How do you not get that?

The heavy hitters surveyed for Carr’s ranking know a bit more than you. 20 is about right and when you factor in his contract, the Saints are probably in bottom 5 worst QB situation.

This will stunt Rattler’s growth and we’re contract committed through next 2 seasons.

In no particular order; he goes into the "they're all the same, situational" batch.

Elite tier:
1. Mahomes
2. Burrow
3. Allen
4. Jackson
5. Herbert

Near-elite tier:
6. Stroud
7. Prescott
8. Cousins
9. Rodgers (healthy)
10. Purdy
11. Tagovailoa

Then the they're all the same tier:
12. Goff
13. Stafford
14. Carr
15. Mayfield
16. Lawrence
17. Love
18. Hurts
19. Smith
20. Wilson
21. Murray
22. Watson

Definitely worse tier:
23. Howell
24. Young
25. O'Connell/Minshew
26. Levis
27. Brissett
28. Fields
29. Darnold
30. Jones

Unsure every rookie QB & some:
Richardson
Williams
Daniels
Nix
Maye
Penix Jr

The extension. Not the signing. He was the best player available on a deal that really let the Saints walk away if it didn’t work out.

And then we extended him.

I wish we would’ve rolled with Taysom. I don’t seriously think you win there, but it lets the team deal with cap issues and position itself to rebuild.

If Carr stays healthy through the GB game the saints win the division and go to playoffs and the baker comment is moot point

Sean Payton and Mickey Loomis made sure the saints would stay in cap hell for a very long time. Sean wore out the checkbook on bad move after bad move. Made horrid draft day picks and decisions. Carr came into a pile of shite you can't blame Carr for everything only his personal play and even that can be subjective to the shite O-line

Restructure, not an extension. An extension means they added on additional years with the team. The Saints restructured his 2024 salary and converted majority (was it $30M) into a bonus, so they could spread that over 5 years. He is still scheduled to be a FA in 2027, unless they have to extend him to avoid the inevitable HUGE price tag when they do the same this offseason because Mickey can't help himself.

Found the article
Looks like the way the ranking works, is these 50 voters just put them in tiers from 1-5 and then the QBs are ranked based on the average. Apparently, Carr has 4 Tier 2 rankings, and 4 Tier 4 rankings, the other 42 were tier 3.

FYI Tier 3 ranks from 15 - 22: Puts Carr in a group with Tua, TLaw, Kyler, Watson (funny when you consider how we ended up with Carr), Baker, Geno, & Russ

Going through some of the names, these "votes" stood out.
1 voter (may not be the same) put Josh Allen & Lamar in Tier 3?
Rodgers had 2 Tier 4 votes?
Love had 1 Tier 1 vote?
How does Fields get any tier 2 (1) or Tier 3 (20) votes?

This is perfectly said. No one is falling for his mindless rah rah drivel

He gets defended because he’s going to be our qb this season no matter what. It’s best to hope for the best. I can’t speak for everybody on this site but I actually take enjoyment watching the Saints win. I’m willing to give him this season and hopefully we can make adjustments next off season if he can’t lead us to the playoffs. Most think Carmichael was bad. So let’s see if Kubiak actually makes a difference.

I will give him his flowers if he can lead this team to the playoffs. Difference is, the Carr brigade will continue to make excuses for him if he falters

There's optimism and there's believing Carr will suddenly change his stripes from whom he's been his whole career and be a guy that's capable of carrying a team into the playoffs because given how flawed this roster is, a slight improvement isn't getting us there.

the whole "we barely missed the playoffs" last year is such a fricking misnomer. Given our shite division and all the breaks we caught with the schedule, the playoffs should have been a given.

Top third qb would be around, almost 11. I think Carr at his very best can be about that as evidenced by his making the Pro Bowl. More realistically, he’s a top half qb when playing well and there’s not a lot of difference in that large third tier.

just another reason to pull for him. we're gonna restructure him this coming off-season too. not much of a choice.

impossible to say it any better.

There's a long list. I'll go with:

"With the 11th pick of the 1979 NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints select..."
